1 The uptake of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) by rat blood platelets in citrated plasma was linear for at most 10 s and was substantially complete within 3 minutes. 2 Adenosine 5'-diphosphate (ADP) was a potent inhibitor of 5-HT uptake (Ki=0.38 muM) and kinetic analysis revealed that the inhibition was not competitive. 3 Inhibition of 5-HT uptake by ADP was abolished in the presence of prostaglandin E1 and 2-n-amylthio-AMP, which also inhibit the stimulant actions of ADP on blood platelets. 4 It is concluded that ADP could inhibit 5-HT uptake by changing the Na+/K+ distribution across the cell membrane, and the biological significance of this is discussed.

Background: Platelet concentrates play an important role in clinical treatment such as platelet function disorders and thrombocytopenia. In the process of preparation and storage of platelets, centrifugation, leukofiltration, and agitation will cause morphological changes and impaired function of platelets, which is associated with the increase of platelet transfusion refractoriness, and named as platelet storage lesion (PSL).
Method: This paper proposes three major operations (centrifugation, agitation, and leukofiltration) that platelets experience during the preparation and storage process, to explore the effect of physical cues on PSL.

Background: Reduced effect of antiplatelet therapy has been reported in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). This could partly be explained by an increase of highly reactive immature platelets.
Objectives: To investigate changes in platelet maturity and reactivity after acute STEMI.

Objectives: Platelet concentrates (PCs), which are blood products that are abundant in platelets and growth factors, have become pivotal in treating maxillofacial tissue lesions due to their capacity for promoting bone and soft tissue recovery. This review will provide some recent progress of the use of platelet concentrates to treat lesions on maxillofacial tissues.
Subjects: We reviewed the mechanisms by which PCs promote wound healing and tissue recovery and summarized the application of PCs in the treatment of lesions on maxillofacial tissues, including medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw, post-extraction wound healing, implant surgery, temporomandibular joint diseases, and periodontal tissue restoration.

Background: Platelet count and function may be closely related to survival and prognosis of stroke and cancer. However, little is known on the impact of platelet count on the patients with a history of stroke and cancer. This study aimed to examine the association between baseline platelet level and all-cause mortality in this population using a cross-sectional analysis.

Background: Hypertension has shown a trend of prevalence at younger ages, and the non-dipping pattern is associated with target organ damage in hypertension. However, few studies have yet investigated the clinical characteristics and risk factors of non-dipper status in essential hypertension children. This study aimed to explore the clinical characteristics and possible indicators associated with non-dipper status in children with essential hypertension.
