Based on hourly means of exposure rate between August 2000 and July 2001 at nine Regional Radiation Monitoring Stations (RRMS) in Korea, we analyzed spatio-temporal characteristics of exposure rate. The mean and fluctuations of exposure rates were 99 and 3.8 nGy h(-1), respectively. The hourly exposure rate over 9 RRMS indicated a diurnal pattern with the exposure rates reaching a maximum between 5:00 and 8:00 a.m. in the early morning and a broad minimum between 4:00 and 10:00 p.m. in the afternoon. The fluctuations of exposure rate in the inland areas were less than 3.2 nGy h(-1), and those of exposure rate in coastal areas were larger than 3.9 nGy h(-1). The frequency distribution of exposure rates had one peak around the mean and was to be skewed to the right or positively skewed and its tails were fatter than those of a normal distribution. The interrelations of exposure rates at each station generally decreased with the distance between the stations. Empirical orthogonal function (EOF) analysis showed that almost all (99.9%) of exposure rate fluctuations were described by simultaneous variations. The spatial distribution of the first EOF modes of actual, low-pass (periods longer than one month) and high-pass (periods shorter than one month) exposure rate series were similar to each other.

Objective: The objective of this study is to assess whether experiencing homelessness may be associated with future risk of injury death and characterise these injury deaths by homelessness status among veterans who received healthcare through the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted among 6 128 921 veterans (399 125 homeless and 5 729 796 non-homeless) who received VA healthcare between 2017 and 2020 and were followed until 2021 using linked data from VA's Corporate Data Warehouse, Homeless Operations Management System and the VA/Department of Defense Joint Mortality Data Repository. Injury death rates were estimated by homelessness status with 95% CIs using the exact Poisson method.

Our lab previously established that repeated exposure to a bitter diet can increase salivary protein (SP) expression, which corresponds to an increase in acceptance of the bitter stimulus. However, this work was exclusively in male rodents, here we examine sex differences. We found that there are no differences in SP expression (experiment 1) or quinine diet acceptance (experiment 2) across stage of estrous cycle.

Background: Numerous studies have assessed the risk of SARS-CoV-2 exposure and infection among health care workers during the pandemic. However, far fewer studies have investigated the impact of SARS-CoV-2 on essential workers in other sectors. Moreover, guidance for maintaining a safely operating workplace in sectors outside of health care remains limited.

This study presents a novel optoporation technique using a titanium-coated TiO microstructure (TMS) device activated by an infrared diode laser for highly efficient intracellular delivery. The TMS device, fabricated with 120 nm titanium coating on a titanium dioxide (TiO) microstructure containing microneedles (height ∼2 μm and width ∼4.5 μm), demonstrates enhanced biocompatibility and thermal conductivity compared to the conventional TiO microstructure (MS).

Importance: This study addresses the characteristics, kidney replacement therapy (KRT) modalities, and outcomes in children diagnosed with crush syndrome following an earthquake in Turkey.
Objective: To analyze the associations of different KRT modalities with long-term dialysis dependency and length of stay (LOS) in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU).
Design, Setting, And Participants: This multicenter, prospective, and retrospective cohort study was conducted across 20 PICUs in Turkey.
