OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the free alpha subunit of human chorionic gonadotropin (FalphahCG) as a marker for pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH). METHODS: The study group consisted of 74 pregnant women with hypertension. PIH admitted at 21-43 weeks of gestation. The control group was 37 non-PIH women. Serum FalphahCG was measured by radioimmunoassay with monoclonal technology. Using Youden's index of the receiver operator characteristic curve(ROC), a threshold value was determined. RESULTS: FalphahCG levels in PIH women were significantly higher than in the control group women [(556+/-428)IU/L compared with (232+/-131)IU/L,P<0.001].Using 260 IU/L of FalphahCG as the threshold value yields a sensitivity of 81.1% and specificity of 75.7% with a Youden's index of 0.57 for predicting PIH. CONCLUSION: Serum FalphahCG may serve as a useful marker to predict PIH.

Background: Apolipoproteins as an integral part of lipoproteins are crucial for the transport and metabolism of lipids. However, there is a lack of longitudinal studies to quantify the concentrations of maternal apolipoproteins from preconception to postpartum and their associations with maternal metabolic health and offspring birth outcomes.
Methods: Quantification of apolipoproteins was performed on maternal plasma samples (N = 243 trios) collected at preconception, 26-28 weeks' pregnancy, and three months postpartum in the Singapore PREconception Study of long-Term maternal and child Outcomes (S-PRESTO) cohort study.

Background: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the leading cause of death in pregnant and peripartal women in western countries. Physiological changes during pregnancy can lead to cardiovascular complications in the mother; women with pre-existing heart disease may not tolerate these changes well, increasing their susceptibility to adverse cardiovascular outcomes during pregnancy. The aim of this study is to characterize pregnancy-induced changes in cardiac function, biomarker concentrations and cardiovascular outcomes in women with CVD during pregnancy at a tertiary care hospital in Germany.

: Preeclampsia, a pregnancy-induced hypertensive disorder, shares cardiovascular characteristics in etiology, prognosis, and fetomaternal risks. Electrocardiography plays a pivotal role in assessing cardiovascular risks. Beyond conventional predictors, identifying easily obtainable and reproducible electrocardiographic markers may significantly contribute to the early identification of individuals at risk of preeclampsia.

Objective: The biological role of circ_0004858 (circYTHDF1) in pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH) and the underlying mechanisms were unknown, and which were explored in this study.
Methods: ELISA was employed to detect the level of inflammatory cytokines and biochemical parameters; flow cytometry was employed to detect cell apoptosis; western blot and qRT-PCR were employed to examine expression level.
Results: The level of IL-1β, TNF-α, IL-6, TGF-β1, ET-1, and Ang-II were significantly elevated in the peripheral blood of PIH patients.
