[Application of SPECT bone scan for multiple myeloma].

Hunan Yi Ke Da Xue Xue Bao

Department of Nuclear Medicine, Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, Changsha 410008, China.

Published: April 2002

Objective: To study the diagnostic value of SPECT for multiple myeloma (MM).

Methods: Single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) bone scan, marrow puncturing, x-ray and other related examinations were performed in 46 patients with MM. We analysed the diagnostic value of SPECT bone scan combined with marrow puncturing and other examinations for MM. Some patients were examined with SPECT bone scan in order to estimate the efficacy of MM.

Results: SPECT bone scan images of 44 patients were abnormal in the 46 patients with MM. The masculine rate was 95.6%. In most of the patients, there was multiple abnormal osseous metabolism in the whole body, especially in the spine, double ribs, and pelvis. We observed the efficacy of 2 patients with SPECT bone scan. After the therapy, SPECT bone scan was performed again in 1 patient, and the image showed that the range of abnormal osseous metabolism was reduced; SPECT bone scan was performed again in the other patient, and the abnormal range was found to have increased obviously.

Conclusion: SPECT bone scan is one of the important assistant examination methods for MM. Its sensitivity is high. The nuclear medical diagnoses should be combined with clinical documents. SPECT bone scan might be available for monitoring the efficacy of MM.

Purpose: To compare the performance of pseudoplanar (PP) images reprojected from bone single photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (SPECT/CT) against 'real' planar bone scintigraphy for the assessment of localization and grading of radiotracer uptake of active osteoarthritic joints in the foot and ankle. Noninferiority of PP images would shorten the protocol substantially.

Methods: Late-phase real planar (RP) and SPECT/CT reconstructed PP images of 96 feet in 48 patients (22 women, 26 men, median age: 49 years, interquartile range: 34-67 years) with foot and ankle osteoarthritis were independently evaluated by three different readers.

Development of a novel phantom for evaluating jawbone SPECT targeting medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw.

February 2025

Department of Medical Radiological Technology, Faculty of Health Sciences, Kyorin University, B-524, 5-4-1 Shimorenjaku, Mitaka, Tokyo, 181-8612, Japan.

Objective: We developed a new phantom for technical evaluation of jawbone single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) examinations for medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ). In this study, we verified the utility of the phantom by determining optimal image reconstruction parameters.

Methods: We evaluated the image quality and quantification in jawbone SPECT images obtained by different reconstruction parameters using the phantom.

: ATTRv and ATTRwt cardiac amyloidosis (CA) are underrecognized causes of heart failure with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction. The diagnosis of CA remains challenging due to low diagnostic suspicion and clinical overlap with more common diseases. The aim of this study was to use [Tc]-PYP SPECT-CT to perform a volumetric evaluation of bone scintigraphy to overcome the limitations of current practices.

Purpose: Emerging nuclear imaging technologies are advancing the field of spinal diagnostics for degenerative changes. This study aimed to describe the prevalence of spinal hot spots in an orthopedic population undergoing bone scintigraphy (BS) for reasons unrelated to the spine and to assess the correlation of these hot spots with the presence of corresponding spinal complaints.

Methods: A retrospective analysis of patients from the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology who provided general consent for the use of their medical data.

Purpose: 360° CZT-cameras provide whole-body bone SPECT/CT recordings at delayed (DEL) and blood-pool (BP) phases with short recording times but long visual analysis times. This study aims to determine whether a standardized uptake value (SUV)-based detection of inflammatory arthritis (IA) could facilitate this analysis.

Methods: We included 72 patients with known or suspected IA who underwent two-phase whole-body bone SPECT/CT after 550-650 MBq [Tc]Tc-HDP injection.
