Both the surgical non-cultured melanocyte-keratinocyte transplant procedure (MKTP) and intradermal injection of 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) are effective in the treatment of vitiligo. Intrablisters injection of MKTP was done in one study with better results than MKTP application after ablative CO2 laser of the reciepient area. However, intrablister injection of 5-FU was not done before.

Skin inflammation and lipid disorder induced by topical application of Mal f 1.

Int Immunopharmacol

January 2025

The Second Affiliated Hospital, Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Allergy & Immunology, The State Key Laboratory of Respiratory Disease, Guangzhou Medical University, Guangzhou, China. Electronic address:

Objected: Mal f 1, the first allergen cloned from Malassezia furfur, has been found to have positive IgE reactivity in sera from patients with skin inflammation. In vitro, it has also been shown to induce maturation of dendritic cells and release inflammatory factors. However, its role in skin lipid homeostasis remains largely unexplored.

Tick salivary cystatin Iristatin limits the virus replication in skin of tick-borne encephalitis virus-infected mice.

Parasitol Res

January 2025

Department of Medical Biology, Faculty of Science, University of South Bohemia, Branišovská 1760, CZ-37005, České Budějovice, Czech Republic.

Tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) is flavivirus transmitted to the host via tick saliva which contains various molecules with biological impacts. One of such molecules is Iristatin, a cysteine protease inhibitor from Ixodes ricinus that has been shown to have immunomodulatory properties. To characterize Iristatin in the relation to TBEV, we investigate whether this tick inhibitor has any capacity to influence TBEV infection.

Generation of a genetically engineered porcine melanoma model featuring oncogenic control through conditional Cre recombination.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Laboratory of Veterinary Embryology and Biotechnology (VETEMBIO), Veterinary Medical Center and College of Veterinary Medicine, Chungbuk National University, Cheongju, Republic of Korea.

Article Synopsis
  • Melanoma is a severe skin cancer that starts from melanocytes, and existing rodent models have limitations in mirroring human conditions.
  • Researchers have created a transgenic pig model that mimics human melanoma using somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT), enabling better study of the disease.
  • This new model allows for the investigation of melanoma development and response to treatments, providing a significant resource for advancing cancer research and drug testing.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a prevalent, persistent inflammatory skin disorder distinguished by pruritic and irritated skin. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are specialized receptors that recognize specific patterns associated with pathogens and tissue damage, triggering an innate immune response that protects the host from invading pathogens. Previously, it was demonstrated that intradermal injection of the humanized anti-TLR2 monoclonal antibody (Ab) Tomaralimab effectively relieved AD-like skin inflammation in BALB/c mouse models exposed to house dust mite extracts.
