Patellar dysplasia (PD) can cause patellar dislocation and subsequent osteoarthritis (OA) development. Herein, a novel ABCA6 mutation contributing to a four-generation family with familiar patellar dysplasia (FPD) is identified. In this study, whole exome sequencing (WES) and genetic linkage analysis across a four-generation lineage presenting with six cases of FPD are conducted.

The Cost of Randomness in Evolutionary Algorithms: Crossover Can Save Random Bits.

Chair of Algorithms for Intelligent Systems, University of Passau, Passau, Germany

Evolutionary algorithms make countless random decisions during selection, mutation and crossover operations. These random decisions require a steady stream of random numbers. We analyze the expected number of random bits used throughout a run of an evolutionary algorithm and refer to this as the cost of randomness.

Decomposition-based multi-objective evolutionary algorithms (MOEAs) are popular methods utilized to address many-objective optimization problems (MaOPs). These algorithms decompose the original MaOP into several scalar optimization subproblems, and solve them to obtain a set of solutions to approximate the Pareto front (PF). The decomposition approach is an important component in them.

The SWItch/Sucrose Non-Fermenting (SWI/SNF) complexes are evolutionarily conserved, ATP-dependent chromatin remodelers crucial for multiple nuclear functions in eukaryotes. Recently, plant BCL-DOMAIN HOMOLOG (BDH) proteins were identified as shared subunits of all plant SWI/SNF complexes, significantly impacting chromatin accessibility and various developmental processes in Arabidopsis. In this study, we performed a comprehensive characterization of mutants, revealing the role of BDH in hypocotyl cell elongation.

Objectives: Acetylated tubulin is a hallmark of flagellar stability in spermatozoa, and studies have demonstrated the ability of CDYL to function as a tubulin acetyltransferase in spermatozoa. Of note, germline conditional knockout of Cdyl can lead to asthenoteratozoospermia and infertility in male mice. However, the role of CDYL gene in human fertility remains uncharacterized.
