5-(2'-oxoheptadecyl)-resorcinol [structure: see text] and 5-(2'-oxononadecyl)-resorcinol [structure: see text] were isolated from fermentations of an imperfect basidiomycete. The structures of the compounds were determined by spectroscopic techniques. Both compounds exhibit cytotoxic effects against the human colon tumor cell lines COLO-320, DLD-1 and HT-29 and the human promyeloid leukemia cell line HL-60, the human leukemia T cell JURKAT, the human hepatocellular carcinoma cell line HEP-G2 as well as the J774 mouse macrophage cell line. The compounds induce morphological and physiological differentiation of HL-60 cells into granulocytes, which subsequently die by apoptosis. Both compounds show no antibacterial and antifungal activity.

Confined space fires could easily cause serious casualties and property damage, and foam is an effective means of preventing confined space fires. The existing foam generator does not have both momentum and foam expansion rate (FER) and is poorly suited to confined spaces. In order to develop a foam generator suitable for confined space fire protection, an in-depth analysis of the physical foaming characteristics of self-suction foam is required, and the structure of the foam generator is optimized accordingly.

Microbial metabolism is impressively flexible, enabling growth even when available nutrients differ greatly from biomass in redox state. , for example, rearranges its physiology to grow on reduced and oxidized carbon sources through several forms of fermentation and respiration. To understand the limits on and evolutionary consequences of this metabolic flexibility, we developed a coarse-grained mathematical framework coupling redox chemistry with principles of cellular resource allocation.

Background: Despite the immense potential of telemedicine, its implementation in Ethiopia and other developing nations has faced formidable challenges, leading to disappointingly low utilization rates. Therefore, this study sought to assess the magnitude and factors associated with telemedicine service practice among healthcare professionals in the pilot public hospitals of Sidama and Southern Nations Nationalities Peoples Regions.
Methods: Cross-sectional study was conducted from June 1-30, 2021 among randomly selected 407 health professionals working at Pilot Hospitals in Southern Ethiopia.

Vector resistance, human population movement, and cross-border malaria continue to pose a threat to the attainment of malaria elimination goals. Border malaria is prominent in border regions characterised by poor access to health services, remoteness, and vector abundance. Human socio-economic behaviour, vectoral behaviour, access and use of protective methods, age, sex, and occupation have been identified in non-border regions as key predictors for malaria.

Background: To study the morphological characteristics of the thalamus in cognitively normal people with apolipoprotein E epsilon 4 (APOE ε4), and to explore whether it is affected by neuropsychiatric symptoms in patients aged between 60 and 70 years, and to provide evidence for the early brain structural changes in Alzheimer's disease.
Method: Clinical assessment, neuropsychological assessment, blood text and MRI examination were performed in 101 cognitively normal elderly patients in a tertiary psychiatric memory clinic in Chengdu. The cognitive function and thalamic volume of APOE ε4 carriers (n = 30) and APOE ε4 non-carriers (n = 71) were compared using an independent sample T-test.
