Nasogastric tube decompression is a common technique used after abdominal surgery as it is widely accepted to play a role in the management of postoperative ileus and possibly reduce anastomotic leaks after gastrointestinal surgery. However, the routine practice of nasogastric/nasoenteric tube decompression in elective abdominal surgeries has been challenged due to the increased incidence of pulmonary complications and the argued lack of expected benefit. Here, we present a rare complication of nasogastric tube drainage following a routine total gastrectomy for signet-ring cell adenocarcinoma of the cardia in a 43-year-old female.

A 67-year-old man visited our hospital for epigastric pain. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy(EGD)revealed type 2 gastric cancer from the cardia to the gastric angle, and histopathological examination revealed papillary adenocarcinoma(pap), HER2-positive. Contrast-enhanced CT showed wall thickening mainly in the posterior wall of the gastric body, enlarged lymph nodes that were lumped together with the main lesion, and 8 low-absorption areas with ring shaped contrast effects in both lobes of the liver.

Background/aims: Helicobacter pylori infection-negative gastric cancer (HPNGC) has not been systematically investigated in consecutive patients. Hence, this study aimed to investigate the clinicopathological and endoscopic features of HPNGC.
Methods: This single-center retrospective study selected participants from patients with gastric cancer who were treated at the Fukuoka University Chikushi Hospital between January 2013 and December 2021.
