[Plants and plant produce--about plants as cause of diseases].

Tidsskr Nor Laegeforen

Hudavdelingen Haukeland Sykehus 5021 Bergen.

Published: June 2002

Background: Plants and plant products may lead to a variety of skin disorders, commonly referred to as phytodermatoses.

Material And Methods: On the basis of literature studies and on the author's own experience, this article discusses the main groups of phytodermatoses, focusing on Norwegian plants that may cause skin disorders.

Results: A small number of plant families account for more than 95% of the phytodermatoses. Contact allergy to plants of the Compositae family is an important cause of skin disorder. Phytodermatoses are commonly related to the patient's occupation.

Interpretation: Doctors should be familiar with the term phytodermatoses and be aware of plants and plant products as possible causes of skin disorder.

Soil oil pollution is a major environmental issue, especially in oil-producing nations, as it threatens the health of plants, animals, and humans. While bioremediation has been extensively utilized as a cost-effective method for restoring oil-contaminated soil, its environmental impact has garnered relatively little attention. Researchers often concentrate on reducing pollutant concentrations below permissible limits to restore soil quality.

Group A basic leucine zipper (bZIP) transcription factors play critical roles in abscisic acid (ABA) signaling and plant development. In Arabidopsis thaliana, these factors are defined by a highly conserved core bZIP domain, and four conserved domains throughout their length: three at the N-terminus (C1 to C3) and a phosphorylatable C-terminal SAP motif located at the C4 domain. Initially, members such as ABI5 and ABFs were studied for their roles in ABA signaling during seed germination or stress responses.

The transport of metabolites across the inner mitochondrial membrane (IMM) is crucial for maintaining energy balance and efficient distribution of metabolic intermediates between cellular compartments. Under abiotic stress, mitochondrial function becomes particularly critical, activating complex signaling pathways essential for plant stress responses. These pathways modulate stress-responsive gene expression, influencing key physiological processes such as cell respiration and senescence, helping plants adapt to stress.

Background: Rice is a staple food for the global population. However, extreme weather events threaten the stability of the water supply for agriculture, posing a critical challenge to the stability of the food supply. The use of technology to assess the water status of rice plants enables the precise management of agricultural water resources.
