Revision quadriceps tendon repair: A case series and technique guide to a novel repair.

Trauma Case Rep

February 2025

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine, University at Buffalo, Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Buffalo, NY 14203, United States of America.

Introduction: Revision quadriceps tendon repair is a challenging problem. In this four-case series, novel quadriceps tendon revision resulted in improved range of motion and durable repair for patients with recurrent rupture.

Methods: Our technique includes a combination of a running locked #5 FiberWire or 2 mm SutureTape suture placed through parallel medial, lateral, and central drill holes in the patella with running Krackow-type quadriceps tendon repair medially and laterally resulting in four strands, delivering the vastus medialis and medial quadriceps tendon to an anatomic repair at the superior pole of the patella, with 2 sutures passed centrally and 1 each passed medially and laterally and then tied.

Background: This study presents the one-year outcomes of a modified technique for transscleral suture fixation of a posterior chamber intraocular lens (PCIOL) in aphakic eyes.

Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted on 45 patients who underwent transscleral suture fixation of a foldable one-piece PCIOL through scleral pockets. Preoperative data and follow-up data for a minimum of 12 months were collected for all patients.

This prospective, observational cohort study compares the clinical and radiographic outcomes of the modified Weaver and Dunn (WD) technique with the newer, anatomical double-button plus tendon allograft technique (DB), and the suture anchor repair plus tendon allograft (SA). The study cohort includes 53 patients, who underwent surgery for acromioclavicular joint (ACJ) dislocation Rockwood type 3, 4 and 5. Patient-reported outcome scores and clinical results, including Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH), the Subjective Shoulder Value (SSV), the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and the Constant score (CS) results as well as loss of reduction rates on plain radiographs were compared.

Therapeutic effect of titanium locking plate combined with suture anchor repair in proximal humeral fractures.

Pak J Med Sci

January 2025

Zhenfeng Huang Department of Orthopedic Trauma, Wuhan Fourth Hospital, Wuhan, Hubei Province 430000, P.R. China.

Objective: To explore the therapeutic effect of titanium locking plate combined with suture anchor (SA) repair in the treatment of proximal humeral fractures (PHF).

Methods: This retrospective study was conducted by analyzing the clinical data of 113 patients with PHF admitted to Wuhan Fourth Hospital from March 2021 to October 2023. Among them, 55 patients underwent open reduction and internal fixation (OR/IF) using titanium locking plate (OR/IF group), and 58 patients underwent surgery with titanium locking plate combined with SA (SA group).

Suture passers are indispensable instruments in orthopaedic surgery, particularly in open procedures. Commercial suture passers, while effective, can be costly and may not be readily available in all surgical settings. We present the Mo Passer (Mufasa), an innovative, cost-effective technique utilizing standard theatre materials.
