An injection of luteinizing hormone releasing hormone (LH-RH) increased plasma LH and testosterone concentrations in the male dog, but no significant increase in plasma oestradiol-17beta levels was observed. Repeated injections of LH-RH produced an increase in plasma LH levels but there was a progressive decline in the response with each injection. The concentration of plasma testosterone reached a maximum within 40 min of the first injection of LH-RH and remained constant thereafter while plasma oestradiol concentration gradually increased with successive injections of LH-RH.

Luteinizing hormone (LH), along with its agonist choriongonadotropin (hCG) in humans, is the key hormone responsible for the tropic regulation of the gonadal function. LH and hCG act through their cognate receptor, the luteinizing hormone/choriongonadotropin receptor (LHCGR; more appropriately LHR in rodents lacking CG), located in the testis in Leydig cells and in the ovary in theca, luteal, and luteinizing granulosa cells. Low levels in LHCGR are also expressed in numerous extragonadal sites.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the possible mechanism through which acupuncture protects ovaries with Poor Ovarian Response (POR) in rats based on microRNA (miRNA).
Methods: Thirty-six SPF SD female non-pregnant rats aged 8 weeks were randomly divided into the blank group, model group, and acupuncture group, with 12 rats in each group. According to the group, the rats were given gavage of Tripterygium wilfordii polyglycosides suspension for 14 days to establish the model of POR, and then the rats were treated with acupuncture for 2 weeks, once a day, for 20 minutes.

The mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway is activated by luteinizing hormone in preovulatory follicle. However, its impact on ovulation remains inadequately explored. Utilizing in vivo studies and in vitro fertilization, we demonstrated that the negative effect of inhibition of mTOR signaling by rapamycin on oocyte quality during the ovulatory phase, with a notable decrease in the total cell count of blastocysts, a reduction in gastrula size, and fetal degeneration on the 16th day of gestation while not affecting ovulated oocyte count or granulosa cell luteinization.
