Background: Hospital-acquired bloodstream infections (BSI) are associated with high morbidity and mortality rates. This study was conducted to describe the outcomes and the prognosis of hospital-acquired BSI in the Critical Care Unit, Hospital Pakar Universiti Sains Malaysia (HPUSM), as well as to identify associated factors of treatment failure and mortality at 28 days.
Methods: This prospective cohort study was conducted in the Critical Care Unit of HPUSM from September 2019 to March 2021.
Background And Objective: Previously, the novel small molecule ISFP10 has been shown to inhibit fungal phosphoglucomutase (PGM) activity in and spp. With 50-fold selectivity over the human PGM molecule due to the presence of a unique yet conserved cysteine residue present in a number pathogenic fungal PGMs, use of this compound may provide a novel broad-spectrum approach to treating fungal infections. Accordingly, we sought to determine the tolerability in test animals receiving this compound, as well as the potential antifungal activity of ISFP10 on cultures of the common fungal pathogens and .

Purpose: Progenitors for the corneal endothelium have been identified in the transition zone (TZ), but their cellular interactions remain undefined. Posterior limbal mesenchymal stromal cells (P-LMSCs) may support TZ cells in the posterior limbus. This study aims to characterize P-LMSCs and investigate their effects on TZ cells.

Background: Neurodegeneration due to neurotoxicity is one of the phenomena in temporal lobe epilepsy. Experimentally, hippocampal excitotoxicity process can occur due to kainic acid exposure, especially in the CA3 area. Neuronal death, astrocyte reactivity and increased calcium also occur in hippocampal excitotoxicity, but few studies have investigated immediate effect after kainic acid exposure.

Background: Notwithstanding guidance from the European Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Society (ECFS) neonatal screening (NBS) working group, significant variation persists in the evaluation and management of Cystic Fibrosis Screen Positive, Inconclusive Diagnosis (CFSPID) subjects, leaving many aspects of care under debate. This study reports the results of a national survey investigating management and treatment approaches of pre-school CFSPIDs in Italy.
Methods: In February 2024, a comprehensive questionnaire was distributed to all Italian CF centers.
