The present study is focused on the evidence of possible single-trial EEG/MEG analysis of information processing. The discrimination between thinking modalities of concept activation and pattern comparison for single tasks of elementary comparison procedures is investigated. A neural network classifier with backpropagation learning algorithm is used. The input vector is constructed by parameters of instantaneous coherence (13-20 Hz) between several channel pairs of the EEG and/or of the MEG. Thereby, the strength of synchronization and the time location of synchronization phenomena are taken into consideration. The combination of EEG and MEG coherence parameters led to a classification accuracy of 85-94% for single subjects. Generally, results reached by neural network classifier show a better generalization than linear discriminant analysis.

Finite element computations offer ways to study the behavior of ultrasonic waves in polycrystals. In particular, the simulation of plane waves propagation through small representative elementary volumes of a microstructure allows estimating velocities and scattering-induced attenuation for an effective homogeneous material. Existing works on this topic have focused mainly on longitudinal waves.

Executive functions (EF) have been significantly correlated with many important participant characteristics, including education, behavior, and overall health. Assessing EF in children is particularly important, as doing so can help clinicians develop programs for EF remediation. However, there is a limited understanding of comprehensive performance-based EF assessment tools for children.

Calibrations in LA-ICP-MS are typically very time-consuming and complex, as they need to be matched to the samples being measured and sectioned on a microtome. Alternatively, gelatin can be in droplet form or as a section, which is a more recent development. In this study, we report on investigations where hot multi-element gelatin solutions are placed in a linear fashion on microscopic slides to conduct comparative statistical observations between doped tissue homogenates from the liver and lung.

Ion beam-induced deposition (IBID) using Pt(CO)Cl and Pt(CO)Br as precursors has been studied with ultrahigh-vacuum (UHV) surface science techniques to provide insights into the elementary reaction steps involved in deposition, complemented by analysis of deposits formed under steady-state conditions. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and mass spectrometry data from monolayer thick films of Pt(CO)Cl and Pt(CO)Br exposed to 3 keV Ar, He, and H ions indicate that deposition is initiated by the desorption of both CO ligands, a process ascribed to momentum transfer from the incident ion to adsorbed precursor molecules. This precursor decomposition step is accompanied by a decrease in the oxidation state of the Pt(II) atoms and, in IBID, represents the elementary reaction step that converts the molecular precursor into an involatile PtX species.
