Inorganic tripolyphosphate (PPP(i)) and pyrophosphate (PP(i)) were examined as potential phosphate donors for human deoxynucleoside kinase (dCK), deoxyguanosine kinase (dGK), cytosolic thymidine kinase (TK1), mitochondrial TK2, and the deoxynucleoside kinase (dNK) from Drosophila melanogaster. PPP(i) proved to be a good phosphate donor for dGK, as well as for dCK with dCyd, but not dAdo, as acceptor substrate, illustrating also the dependence of donor properties on acceptor. Products of phosphorylation were shown to be 5(')-phosphates. In striking contrast to ATP, the phosphorylation reaction follows strict Michaelis-Menten kinetics, with K(m) values of 74 and 92 microM for dCK and dGK, respectively, and V(max) values 40-50% that for ATP. With the other three enzymes, as well as for dCK with dAdo as acceptor, no, or only low levels (

Article Synopsis
  • Harmful algal blooms (HABs) are increasing globally and threaten ecosystems and human health, with a significant bloom observed in an aquaculture pond near Haizhou Bay in July 2022.
  • The dinoflagellate species responsible for this bloom was identified, known for causing extensive HAB events in China's coastal waters, leading to a notable decrease in phytoplankton species diversity.
  • Laboratory tests revealed that this dinoflagellate can effectively utilize various types of dissolved organic phosphorus for growth, suggesting it has a competitive edge over other phytoplankton and may contribute to future algal blooms in aquaculture settings.

Gas Molecule Assisted All-Inorganic Dual-Interface Passivation Strategy for High-Performance Perovskite Solar Cells.

Adv Sci (Weinh)

September 2024

State Key Laboratory on Integrated Optoelectronics, College of Electronic Science and Engineering, Jilin University, 2699 Qianjin Street, Changchun, 130012, P. R. China.

The trap states at both the upper and bottom interfaces of perovskite layers significantly impact non-radiative carrier recombination. The widely used solvent-based passivation methods result in the disordered distribution of surface components, posing challenges for the commercial application of large-area perovskite solar cells (PSCs). To address this issue, a novel NH gas-assisted all-inorganic dual-interfaces passivation strategy is proposed.

Article Synopsis
  • Cadmium (Cd) in soil poses health risks as it can enter the food chain through crops, prompting a study on how silicate and phosphate amendments affect this transfer in leafy vegetables, specifically pak choi.
  • The research utilized various treatment groups of contaminated soil to assess the effectiveness of different immobilizing agents (wollastonite, potassium tripolyphosphate, and sodium hexametaphosphate) in reducing Cd levels and its bioaccessibility in the plants.
  • Results showed that while wollastonite alone increased Cd in pak choi, combining it with phosphates significantly reduced bio-Cd levels by up to 66.13%, suggesting these amendments can aid in phytoremediation of mildly contaminated soils.

This work describes a novel analytical method using capillary electrophoresis (CE) with capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detection (CD) for simultaneous, simple, and rapid determination of three inorganic phosphates (orthophosphate, pyrophosphate, and tripolyphosphate) widely used as food additives and in pharmaceutical formulations. A background electrolyte composed of 0.5 mol L acetic acid provided fast separation (around 3.

Sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP), an inorganic and non-toxic polyphosphate, has potential applications as a crosslinking agent in the fabrication of edible films. This study utilized STPP in the development of sodium alginate-chitosan composite films, with a focus on their suitability for food packaging applications. The results indicate that the incorporation of STPP led to an increase in film thickness (from 0.
