Animal experiments have suggested that vasectomy may disturb the endocrine function of the testis. To explore this possibility in man blood was obtained from 277 men who had undergone vasectomy up to six years earlier or who were about to undergo the operation. Mean plasma testosterone concentrations seemed to be slightly higher in those who had undergone vasectomy than in the preoperative group, although this difference was not statistically significant. There was no significant difference between these two groups in the concentrations of luteinising hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, prolactin, or oestradiol.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to assess whether there is an association between vasectomy and benign prostatic hyperplasia with associated lower urinary tract symptoms (BPH/LUTS) due to inflammatory etiology.
Materials And Methods: We assessed the incidence of BPH/LUTS in men who had undergone vasectomy in a matched cohort analysis using the TriNetX Research Network. We identified men aged 30 to 60 years who underwent vasectomy and had a follow-up visit within 6 months to 5 years after vasectomy from January 2010 through December 2022 and compared them with matched controls.

Study Design: An online questionnaire regarding sterilization (counselling, sources of information and regret) was promoted on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. A total of 1107 men and women who had undergone or considered sterilization in the Netherlands filled in the questionnaire.
