Equations for the biomasses of trophical levels are presented. Analytic solutions for biomasses of trophical levels and several species of biomasses are obtained near the stationary state. The distribution function for species of biomasses is built.

The inter-annual fluctuations of abundance of the Brazilian sardine () during the last decades have deeply modified the purse seine fishery dynamics. This study evaluates the trophic relationships of the main species exploited by this fishery and the importance of its biomass for the southeast-south Brazil marine ecosystem (22° S-34° S). Data were analyzed using a mass balance model (ECOPATH) between the two fishery collapses: 2000 and 2017.

The Japanese anchovy (Engraulis japonicus), a finfish with the largest biomass of a single species in the Yellow and East China Seas, plays an important pivotal role in converting zooplanktons into high trophic fish in the food web. As a result, the fish is regard as a key species in its habiting ecosystem. However, the lack of genomic resources hampers our understanding of its genetic diversity and differentiation, as well as the evolutionary dynamics.

Cadmium (Cd) pollution is a widespread threat to aquatic life, and ongoing freshwater acidification (FA) can be expected to interact with Cd compounds to disrupt freshwater ecosystems. However, the effects of FA on Cd biotoxicity remain unclear. Herein, the model ciliate Paramecium tetraurelia, a model unicellular eukaryotic organism, was used to explore the response to environmental relevant concentrations of Cd under acidification conditions.

Background: Seawater microbes (bacteria and archaea) play essential roles in coral reefs by facilitating nutrient cycling, energy transfer, and overall reef ecosystem functioning. However, environmental disturbances such as degraded water quality and marine heatwaves, can impact these vital functions as seawater microbial communities experience notable shifts in composition and function when exposed to stressors. This sensitivity highlights the potential of seawater microbes to be used as indicators of reef health.

The Black Sea is affected by numerous anthropogenic pressures, such as eutrophication and pollution through coastal and river discharges, fisheries overexploitation, species invasions, and the impacts of climate change. Growing concerns regarding the cumulative effects of these pressures have necessitated the need for an ecosystem approach to assessing the state of this basin. In recent years, the European Commission-JRC has developed a scientific and modelling tool, the Blue2 Modelling Framework with the aim of exploring the consequences of EU management and policy options on marine ecosystems.
