The Study of Ropivacaine Pharmacokinetics in a Clinical Setting: A Critical Scoping Review from the Perspective of Analytical Methodologies.

Int J Mol Sci

December 2024

Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine, Faculty of General Medicine, George Emil Palade University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science, and Technology of Targu Mures, 540142 Târgu Mureș, Romania.

Ropivacaine, a widely used regional anesthetic also used for pain management, has been increasingly used in recent years due to its increased efficacy and improved safety compared to similar anesthetics. Biomonitoring of ropivacaine and its metabolites during and after anesthesia is an essential process for ensuring therapeutic efficacy and safe usage for patients. The most useful biomonitoring tool in recent years has been liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), which offers selectivity, sensitivity, as well as accuracy of measurements.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a heterogeneous condition with airflow limitation and obstructive characteristics of respiratory function. In addition, musculoskeletal dysfunction and negative changes in body composition, among other comorbidities associated with this disease, result in a low quality of life. Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR), which includes physical exercise, can positively contribute to improving the clinical conditions in individuals with COPD.

Methane Emission of Italian Mediterranean Buffaloes Measured Using a Laser Detector During a Lactation Cycle.

Animals (Basel)

December 2024

Consiglio per la Ricerca in Agricoltura e L'Analisi dell'Economia Agraria, Centro di Ricerca per la Zootecnia e L'acquacoltura, Monterotondo, 00015 Rome, Italy.

In Italy, the number of farmed dairy buffaloes rose up to approximately 436,000 heads in 2023 (+22% in the last 15 years), a fourfold increase compared to the 1980s, due to the growing market interest in mozzarella cheese. The increased demand for mozzarella cheese, in turn, requires higher production, which can result in increased methane emission from the sector. Therefore, it is necessary to establish mitigation and selection schemes for low-emission strategies.

Background: Recently, environmental pollution has become a significant concern for human, animal, and environmental health, fitting within the "One Health" framework. Among the various environmental contaminants, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) have gathered substantial attention due to their persistence, bioaccumulation, and adverse health effects. This study aimed to compare the levels of 12 PFASs in the fur, liver, and muscle of wild roe deer to evaluate the feasibility of using fur as a non-invasive biomonitoring matrix.

Background: Archetypes are representations of a group of people with shared behaviors, attitudes, and characteristics. The design and use of archetypes have potential application to increase partnership and support when embedding and scaling interventions but methodological approaches have not been developed.

Objective: To describe the methodology of designing archetypes for use in a pragmatic trial of advance care planning in the primary care context, SHARING Choices ((NCT04819191).
