The purpose of the study is to establish a colorimetric method of HEC toxin hemolysis test for diagnosis of paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH). RBCs from normal persons and patients with PNH and non-PNH anemia were treated with HEC toxin secreted by Aeromonas hydrophila J-1 strain and the absorbance at 630 nm was measured to quantitate the extent of hemolysis. The results demonstrated that the RBCs from PNH patients showed resistance to the toxin hemolysis, which was in accord with the percentages of CD59(-) cells, while the RBCs from normal persons and non-PNH anemic patients were nearly totally lysed. It is concluded that the method can be considered as a simple, specific and reliable method for the diagnosis of PNH.

Background: Diarrhoeal diseases claim more than 1 million lives annually and are a leading cause of death in children younger than 5 years. Comprehensive global estimates of the diarrhoeal disease burden for specific age groups of children younger than 5 years are scarce, and the burden in children older than 5 years and in adults is also understudied. We used results from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2021 to assess the burden of, and trends in, diarrhoeal diseases overall and attributable to 13 pathogens, as well as the contributions of associated risk factors, in children and adults in 204 countries and territories from 1990 to 2021.

Hyperglycemia is an outcome of dysregulated glucose homeostasis in the human body and may induce chronic elevation of blood glucose levels. Lifestyle factors such as overnutrition, physical inactivity, and psychosocials coupled with systemic low-grade inflammation have a strong negative impact on glucose homeostasis, in particular, insulin sensitivity. Together, these factors contribute to the pathophysiology of diabetes (DM) and expanding landscape of its prevalence regionally and globally.

The aim of this study was to investigate the disruptions of metabolic pathways induced by bisphenol A (BPA) and explore the potential therapeutic intervention provided by resveratrol (RSV) in mitigating these disruptions through the modulation of biochemical pathways. Wistar albino rats were divided into three groups: group 1 served as the control, group 2 received 70 mg/Kg of BPA, and group 3 received 70 mg/kg of BPA along with 100 mg/Kg of RSV. After the treatment period, various biomarkers and gene expressions were measured to assess the effects of BPA and the potential protective effects of RSV.

Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) are a crucial complication of diabetes, as in a diabetic wound, each step of the physiological healing process is affected. This entails a more easily infectable wound, and delayed tissue regeneration due to the inflammation that occurs, leading to a drastic decrease in the overall patient's quality of life. Aims: This study aimed to evaluate changes in glycemic control and diabetes treatment by age group in Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes.
Methods: The study included the results of approximately 40,000 patients/year using cross-sectional and retrospective analyses from 2012 to 2019.
Results: There was little change in the glycemic control status in all age groups during the study period.
