AI Article Synopsis

  • Two patients presented to the emergency department with penile strangulation caused by double key rings around the base of their penises.
  • The condition was successfully treated by cutting the rings off.
  • The report reviews existing scientific literature regarding this rare issue and its treatment approaches.

Article Abstract

We report two cases of patients who went to the emergency department complaining of penile strangulation due to metallic rings (Double key ring) at the base of the penis which was resolved by cutting the metallic rings. We look trough the scientific literature about this unusual pathology and its management.

Key Laboratory of Polyoxometalate Science of Ministry of Education, Faculty of Chemistry, Northeast Normal University, Changchun, Jilin 130024, PR China.

Two novel 3D inorganic-organic hybrids based on [VO]/[VO] clusters, [Cu(bbpy)(VO)]·3HO () and [CuAg(pty)(VO)]·HO () (bbpy = 3,5-bis(1-benzimidazole) pyridine, pty = 4'-(4″-pyridyl)-2,2':6',2″-terpyridine), were isolated in the same POV/Cu/N-heterocycle ligand reaction systems. Hybrids and possess novel three-dimensional bimetallic frameworks derived from [VO]/[VO] clusters and Cu-organic complexes. In , bbpy ligands are grafted by Cu to a grid ribbon 2D sheet, which are connected with benzene-like [VO] to yield a 3D framework.

Pyridine and its derivatives are six-membered aromatic rings containing nitrogen, which are abundant in nature and indispensable in studying heterocyclic chemistry. They constitute significant chemical substances with numerous applications. The application of pyridine derivatives by incorporating metals in modern medicine is growing in relevance.

The extensive use of tetracyclines in livestock poses health risks due to their residues in animal-derived food; therefore, developing simple detection methods to replace complex traditional approaches is of paramount importance. Here, we developed a dual-ligand zinc-based metal-organic framework material, Zn-BTC-BDC-NH (denoted as ZTD), for the detection of tetracyclines. The intrinsic blue fluorescence of ZTD was quenched upon the introduction of tetracyclines due to electron transfer from -NH of ZTD to -CO- and -OH groups of tetracycline molecules; meanwhile, the new green fluorescence emission was generated through π-π stacking between aromatic rings and the formation of complexes between Zn and C-O/C═O groups.

Synthesis and Characterization of a Non-planar Cyclophenylene on Au(111).

Chemistry

January 2025

Centro de Investigacion en Nanomateriales y Nanotecnologia, -, 33940, El Entrego, SPAIN.

We report the surface-assisted synthesis of a non-planar cyclophenylene derivative containing four meta- and two para- connected phenylene moieties on Au(111), via hierarchical Ullmann coupling of a 1,10-dibrominated angular [3]phenylene and subsequent C-C bond cleavage at the four-membered rings. Scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy (STM/STS) were used for the characterization of its chemical structure and electronic properties. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations support the experimental observations.

A concise, transition metal-free four-step synthetic pathway has been developed for the synthesis of tetracyclic heterosteroidal compounds, 14-aza-12-oxasteroids, starting from readily available 2-naphthol analogues. After conversion of 2-naphthols to 2-naphthylamines by the Bucherer reaction, subsequent selective C-acetylation was achieved via the Sugasawa reaction and reduction of the acetyl group using borohydride, which resulted into the corresponding amino-alcohols. The naphthalene-based amino-alcohols underwent double dehydrations and double intramolecular cyclization with oxo-acids leading to one-pot formation of a C-N bond, a C-O bond and an amide bond in tandem, to generate two additional rings completing the steroidal framework.
