A new type of agarose bead, superporous agarose, was used as a gel support for immobilization of human red blood cells (RBCs) mediated by wheat germ lectin. The number of immobilized cells was similar to that obtained with commercial wheat germ lectin-agarose but the cell stability appeared to be superior. This allowed improved frontal affinity chromatographic analyses of cytochalasin B (CB)-binding to the glucose transporter GLUT1 which established a ratio of one CB-binding site per GLUT1 dimer for both plain RBCs or those treated with different poly amino acids. The measured dissociation constants, 70+/-14 nM for CB and 12+/-3 mM for glucose binding to GLUT1, are similar to those reported earlier.

Rett syndrome (RS) is a rare neurodevelopmental disorder primarily caused by mutations in the X-linked methyl-CpG binding protein 2 (MECP2) gene, responsible for encoding MECP2 which plays a pivotal role in regulating gene expression. The neurological and non-neurological manifestations of RS vary widely in severity depending on the specific mutation type. Bone complications, mostly scoliosis but also osteoporosis, hip displacement, and a high rate of fractures, are among the most prevalent non-neurological comorbidities observed in girls with RS.

In this paper, microporous Zn-based zeolitic imidazolate framework with the sodalite cage structure (SOD-ZIF-8) was synthesized by the solvothermal method. Powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and N2 adsorption were employed to characterize the synthesized material. An ultra-sensitive electrochemical sensor based on highly dispersed bimetallic Ni-Pt nanoparticles immobilized on zeolitic metal-organic framework ZIF-8 for dopamine quantification is introduced for the first time.

This study reports on an extremely rare case of non-traumatic atlantoaxial rotatory fixation (AARF) in an adult. Although there are numerous reports on traumatic AARF in adults, those on non-traumatic AARFs are limited. We present the case of a 25-year-old woman who developed neck pain with a limited range of motion (ROM) that began upon waking without any particular inducement.

Valvular heart disease (VHD) poses a significant threat to human health, and the transcatheter heart valve replacement (THVR) is the best treatment for severe VHD. Currently, the glutaraldehyde cross-linked commercial bioprosthetic heart valves (BHVs) remain the first choice for THVR. However, the cross-linking by glutaraldehyde exhibits several drawbacks, including calcification, inflammatory reactions, and difficult endothelialization, which limits the longevity and applicability of BHVs.
