A histomorphological picture of surgically removed cicatricial tissue was compared in two groups of patients with deformations of the larynx and trachea: operated within 1-2 months after trauma and 6-12 months after it. Chronic productive inflammation was found in the tissue early after trauma, while later, mature scar tissue was forming. The conclusion is made that operation early after trauma in combination with conservative therapy may prevent deformation and dystrophic changes in the cartilages as well as development of scar tissue.
