A new and particularly mild method for the formation of phosphorus-sulfur bonds has been achieved through base-catalyzed addition of thiocyanate to the corresponding H-phosphine oxide, phosphinate, or phosphonate. This reaction procedure offers many advantages: the use as starting material of a stable and not oxygen-sensitive phosphorus(v) species, particularly mild and nonaqueous reaction conditions and workup (a pivotal point for these sensitive phosphonothioates), and, through optimized access to thiocyanates, a wider scope of substrates. This method has been applied to achieve the synthesis of substrate analogues for the study of antibody-catalyzed hydrolysis of acetylcholinesterase inhibitor PhX (11).

This study addresses the critical challenge of assessing the quality of groundwater and surface water, which are essential resources for various societal needs. The main contribution of this study is the application of machine learning models for evaluating water quality, using a national database from Mexico that includes groundwater, lotic (flowing), lentic (stagnant), and coastal water quality parameters. Notably, no comparable water quality classification system currently exists.

Background: AD prevention and early detection are crucial to reduce prevalence projections in Latinos. Despite these projections, our community partners in Los Angeles County continue to disclose barriers in accessing culturally and linguistically congruent bilingual programs activating behavioral modifications for AD prevention and early identification of cognitive changes. In this study, we partnered with community organizations to co-design and pilot a brain health prevention program tailored to the needs of their constituents.

Background: The content of circulating exosomes has been observed to be altered in response to changes in physiological and pathological conditions, and they are detectable in different human fluids such as blood. Studies focused on the quantification of Aβ and tau proteins, as molecules contained within exosomes, suggest that they are related with Alzheimer disease (AD) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD) development, demonstrated that plasma-derived exosome analysis is a good approach for searching for biomarkers in the development of dementia. Our aim is to identify new blood biomarkers to detect the AD or FTD in the Chilean population using machine learning based on exosomal miRNAs.

Background: Persons with dementia (PwD) have difficulties in managing time for daily activities due to cognitive impairments. This affects their participation and adds to caregiver burden. Research in developed countries has reported beneficial effects of assistive devices to support daily time management (DTM) of PwD.
