Background: There have been few large reports of the treatment and outcome of neuroborreliosis in children.
Methods: All 203 children with symptoms, cerebrospinal fluid and serologic findings compatible with neuroborreliosis and treated at one of the four pediatric hospitals in Stockholm from 1994 through 1996 were included. Children were treated with intravenous beta-lactam antibiotics or oral doxycycline for 10 days and followed until the resolution of symptoms.
Results: At the end of treatment 58% and after 2 months 92% of the children had no symptoms. Cerebrospinal fluid findings had no statistically significant influence on the outcome. Facial paralysis persisted longer than other symptoms.
Conclusions: The prognosis of neuroborreliosis in children 2 months after treatment seems to be excellent with 10-day treatment regimens.

Background: Antinuclear antibodies (ANA) are important biomarkers for the diagnosis of autoimmune diseases; however, the general population also tests positive at a low frequency, especially in women. Although the effects of various autoimmune diseases on pregnancy outcomes have been studied, the association of ANA with pregnancy outcomes in healthy individuals is unclear. Preterm birth (PTB), a major cause of neonatal death or long-term health problems, is a complex condition with a multifactorial etiology, and the underlying mechanism remains unclear.

Objectives: Neonatal necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is a common intestinal disease that threatens the lives of newborns and is characterized by ischemic necrosis of the small intestine and colon. As early diagnosis of NEC improves prognosis, the identification of new or complementary biomarkers is of great importance. In this study, we evaluate the diagnostic value of CCL3 in NEC and compare its effectiveness with other commonly used biomarkers, such as procalcitonin (PCT) and C-reactive protein (CRP).

Scurvy is now considered to be a rare disease in European countries, even among children, but it still exists. We report the case of an 18-month-old boy who was initially hospitalized for a walking disorder and ultimately diagnosed with scurvy. Radiographs were compatible with rickets, but biological analysis ruled out this diagnosis.
