Lyme neuroborreliosis (LNB) in Europe may manifest with painful meningoradiculoneuritis (also known as Bannwarth syndrome) or lymphocytic meningitis with or without cranial neuritis (peripheral facial palsy). We assessed host immune responses and the prevalence of TLR1 (toll-like receptor 1)-1805GG polymorphism to gain insights into the pathophysiology of these conditions. Regardless of LNB manifestation, most mediators associated with innate and adaptive immune responses were concentrated in cerebrospinal fluid; serum levels were unremarkable.

Background: Neurological complications of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) are wide and may rarely involve the peripheral nervous system. However, no case of meningoradiculitis has been well-detailed.
Methods: We report a patient with lupus-associated meningoradiculitis.
Background: The neurological effects of Lyme borreliosis in children are varied and their clinical progression is not widely reported in the French literature. We carried out a retrospective study to describe the clinical characteristics of Lyme neuroborreliosis in children in southwest France and their clinical progression at 6 months.

Elsberg syndrome is a rare but well-defined clinical condition, including acute or subacute lumbosacral meningoradiculitis, which might be accompanied by myelitis and is often associated with herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) infection. We report the case of an immunocompetent 24-year-old man who presented with perineal pain, saddle hypoesthesia, and urinary retention associated with Elsberg syndrome due to HSV-2 infection 20-day after the posterior lumbar spinal fusion surgery. Lumbar magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with gadolinium enhancement showed mildly enhanced and swollen right sacral nerve roots.

Purpose Of Review: This review focuses on the pathophysiology of acute HIV infection (AHI) and related central nervous system (CNS) pathology, the clinical characteristics of neurologic complications of AHI, and the implications of the CNS reservoir and viral escape for HIV treatment and cure strategies.
Recent Findings: Recent studies in newly seroconverted populations show a high prevalence of peripheral neuropathy and cognitive dysfunction in AHI, even though these findings have been classically associated with chronic HIV infection. HIV cure strategies such as the "shock and kill" strategy are currently being studied and even in small clinical trials, though the CNS as a reservoir for latent HIV poses unique barriers to these treatment strategies.
