This Communication describes a new strategy for the design of adaptive structures based on reconfigurable mesoscale self-assembly. Several sets of millimeter-scale objects have been designed that can self-assemble into two different, regular aggregates at the interface between an aqueous solution and perfluorodecalin; the choice between the two aggregates is determined by the density of the aqueous phase.

Organic charge-modulated field-effect transistors (OCMFETs) have garnered significant interest as sensing platforms for diverse applications that include biomaterials and chemical sensors owing to their distinct operational principles. This study aims to improve the understanding of driving mechanisms in OCMFETs and optimize their device performance by investigating the correlation between organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) and OCMFETs. By introducing self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) with different functional groups on the AlO gate dielectric surface, we explored the impact of the surface characteristics on the electrical behavior of both devices.

ConspectusThe energetic contribution of London dispersion (LD) can cover a broad range from very few to hundreds of kJ mol for extended interaction interfaces due to its pairwise additivity. However, for a designed and successful application of LD in chemical catalysis, there are still many obstacles and questions that remain. In principle, LD can be regarded as the attractive part of the van der Waals potential.

The pathological aggregation of α-synuclein (αS) into amyloid fibrils is the hallmark of Parkinson's disease (PD). The self-assembly and membrane interactions of αS are mainly governed by the seven imperfect 11-residue repeats of the XKTKEGVXXXX motif around residues 1-95. However, the particular role of each repeat in αS fibrillization remains unclear.

A healthy lymphatic system is required to return excess interstitial fluid back to the venous circulation. However, up to 49% of breast cancer survivors eventually develop breast cancer-related lymphedema due to lymphatic injuries from lymph node dissections or biopsies performed to treat cancer. While early-stage lymphedema can be ameliorated by manual lymph drainage, no cure exists for late-stage lymphedema when lymph vessels become completely dysfunctional.

To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of a newly designed self-assembling gel in treating ESD-induced gastric ulcers in patients. This open-label, multicenter, randomized controlled trial enrolled patients who underwent ESD between September 2020 and May 2021. Patients were randomized (1:1) to receive the gel (applied to cover the entire ulcer bed under endoscopic guidance immediately after ESD; gel group) or not (control group).
