Serum IgD levels were quantified in a large population of individuals with a variety of atopic and/or pulmonary disorders. As a group, patients with allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) have markedly elevated (5.03 mg%) serum IgD when compared with serum IgD levels from either normal individuals (2.17 mg%) or patients with a variety of pulmonary and/or atopic disorders. Evidence is presented suggesting that the increased serum IgD levels in ABPA patients are not necessarily related to a hyper-IgE or panhyperimmunoglobulinemia common to most of all these patients, but is rather associated with an additional quantitative difference in the immunological responsiveness of some of these individuals. An understanding of why these patients produce supranormal levels of IgD may reveal the basis for inducing an IgD antibody response and subsequently help in elucidating the biological function(s) of IgD.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, multifactorial, inflammatory and demyelinating disease of the central nervous system (CNS), which involves an autoimmune response against components of the myelin sheaths. Anti-B cell therapies have been proven to be successful in reducing relapses. Therefore, the study of B cells in both phases of the disease (relapse and remission) is of great importance.

The protective effect of higher serum triacylglycerol (51:4) levels against Parkinson's disease.

Br J Nutr

November 2024

Department of Neurosurgery, Neurosurgery Research Institute, The First Affiliated Hospital, Fujian Medical University, Fuzhou 350005, Fujian, China.

Emerging evidence has shown a strong correlation between serum triacylglycerol (TAG) levels, the inflammatory response, and Parkinson's disease (PD) onset. However, the causal relationship between TAG levels and PD has not been well-established. We aimed to investigate the relationship between serum TAG levels and risk of PD and explore the potential mediating role of circulating immune cells and inflammatory proteins.

  • * In a study using CD4Il9ra mice lacking IL-9 receptors in Tfh cells, results showed lower levels of SRBC-specific IgG antibodies and reduced GC B cells and plasma cells after immunization, indicating the importance of IL-9 in antibody production.
  • * Additionally, in allergic asthma models, CD4Il9ra mice showed reduced Tfh cells and specific IgE and IgG responses to house dust mites, suggesting that IL-

Article Synopsis
  • Multiple myeloma (MM) initially manifesting in the sphenoid sinus and skull base is rare, with a systematic review of 34 cases highlighting the challenges of early diagnosis and treatment, particularly for the IgD-λ subtype.
  • A unique case of IgD-λ MM showed symptoms like dizziness and blindness, leading to a confirmed diagnosis and a wide range of diagnostic tests, including advanced imaging and biopsies.
  • The study emphasizes the importance of using CT and MRI scans for detecting bone damage, and suggests that endoscopic procedures are effective for tissue biopsies, which can improve diagnosis in asymptomatic regions like the paranasal sinuses.

Lambda light chain - restricted non - crystalline proximal tubulopathy with cast nephropathy in multiple myeloma: a case report and literature review.

BMC Nephrol

September 2024

Departments of Pathology, Xijing Hospital, School of Basic Medicine, Fourth Military Medical University, 169 Changle Western Street, Xi'an, 710032, Shaanxi, China.

Background: Multiple myeloma (MM) often causes renal tubular damage, such as the light chain cast nephropathy (LCCN) and the light chain proximal tubulopathy (LCPT). The excessive light chains deposited in the proximal and distal tubules usually manifest with different characteristics, leading to a rare coexistence of the two pathological conditions. Here we report a unique case of a patient with multiple myeloma (MM) who presented with acute kidney injury (AKI) due to dual conditions of λ light chain-restricted non-crystalline LCPT and LCCN.
