We reveal from simulations that in longitudinally pumped Ni-like Mo x-ray lasers, deformation of the temporal gain profile can occur, causing the x-ray laser pulse to have a steep rising edge. This is shown to be due to the rapid change in the inverse bremsstrahlung absorption when the main picosecond pulse pumps the cold preplasma.

Background: Intrathecal baclofen (ITB) therapy effectively reduces severe spasticity but is associated with complications that can be serious. The evolution of these complications over time and their predictive factors are not well known.
Objectives: The primary aim was to describe the incidence of ITB complications in adults with neurological disorders and disabling spasticity.

The long-term hypercortisolemia of Cushing disease (CD) may lead to hemodynamic disorders by increasing subclinical cardiac and vascular dysfunction. The purpose of this observational cohort study was to assess the relationship between hemodynamic parameters evaluated via impedance cardiography (ICG) and echocardiographic parameters reflecting left ventricular function in 54 patients newly diagnosed with CD. The parameters assessed via ICG included stroke volume index (SI), cardiac index (CI), acceleration index (ACI), velocity index (VI), systemic vascular resistance index (SVRI), total artery compliance index (TACI).

Background: Insulin pumps coupled with continuous glucose monitoring sensors use algorithms to analyze real-time blood glucose levels. This allows for the suspension of insulin administration before hypoglycemic thresholds are reached or for adaptive tuning in hybrid closed-loop systems. This longitudinal retrospective study aims to analyze real-world glycemic outcomes in a pediatric population transitioning to such devices.

Investigating magnetic blood flow characteristics through arteries and micron-size channels for clinical therapies in biomedicine is becoming increasingly important with the rise of point-of-care diagnostics devices. A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) investigation is conducted to explore blood flow within a coronary artery affected by an elliptical stenosis near the artery wall under the influence of a magnetic field. The novelty of our study is the integration of Navier-Stokes and Maxwell's equations to calculate body forces on fluid flow, coupled with the application of magnetic fields both longitudinally and vertically, and the use of the Carreau-Yasuda model to analyse non-Newtonian blood rheology.

The influence of chronically administered host-targeted drugs on the gut microbiome remains less understood compared to antibiotics. We investigated repetitive exposure effects of three common antiseizure medications [carbamazepine (CBZ), valproic acid, and levetiracetam] on the gut microbial composition, resistome, and metabolome using microcosms constructed from feces of young children. Microcosms were established by cultivating feces for 24 h (C0).
