[A winter seasonal biotope of Culex pipiens autogenicus].

Bull Soc Pathol Exot Filiales

Published: September 1976

The authors describe an epigeal winter seasonal biotope of "culex pipiens autogenicus. The biotope consists of the irrigation system of the large Bervedere park of Tunis city. During the cold and rainy season the irrigation system is abandoned. Many water pools are formed in it in which C. pipiens and Culiseta longiareolata multiply. In summer the operation of the irrigation system brings about the disparition of the nests of larvae. Breeding performed from larvae collected in nature pointed out the autogenous and stenogam characters. Morphologically the specimens correspond to autogenous forms. The importance of the investigations is the evolution of the C. pipiens autogenic species in external nests of larvae during winter was pointed out.

Endoscopic Step-Up Approach in Management of Necrotizing Pancreatitis.

Gastroenterol Clin North Am

March 2025

Department of Gastroenterology, Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, AIG Hospitals, Hyderabad, India. Electronic address:

The endoscopic step-up approach in the management of necrotizing pancreatitis involves sequential steps of intervention at different time points in the clinical course of the disease. EUS -guided drainage of walled-off necrosis is the first step of the endoscopic step-up approach. Lumen-apposing metal stents are preferred over plastic stents for safe and effective drainage because of their wide caliber.

Epiphora associated with anomalies of the distal end of the nasolacrimal duct in children over 12 months: endoscopic findings and treatment.

Arq Bras Oftalmol

January 2025

Department of Ophthalmology, Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto, Universidade de São Paulo, Ribeirão Preto, SP, Brazil.

Purpose: Congenital epiphora can be related to anomalies of the nasolacrimal duct. This study aimed to assess the distal end of the nasolacrimal duct and the outcomes of endoscopic treatment in children older than 12 months with congenital epiphora.

Methods: This retrospective analysis describes the clinical characteristics, management, and outcomes of symptomatic congenital lacrimal obstruction in 32 lacrimal systems of 23 children.

Evaluating endogenous viral targets as potential treatment monitoring surrogates for onsite non-potable water reuse.

Environ Sci (Camb)

February 2024

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Research and Development, 26 W. Martin Luther King Drive, Cincinnati, OH 45268, USA.

Onsite non-potable water reuse systems (ONWS) are decentralized systems that treat and repurpose locally collected waters ( greywater or combined wastewater) for uses such as irrigation and flushing toilets. To ensure that treatment is meeting risk benchmarks, it is necessary to monitor the efficacy of pathogen removal. However, accurate assessment of pathogen reduction is hampered by their sporadic and low occurrence rates in source waters and concentrations in treated water that are generally below measurement detection limits.

Single-cell transcriptomics of bronchoalveolar lavage during PRRSV infection with different virulence.

Nat Commun

January 2025

Functional Genomics & Bioinformatics Laboratory, Department of Animal Science and Technology, Chung-Ang University, Anseong, Gyeonggi-do, 17546, Republic of Korea.

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) causes significant economic losses in the global swine industry due to its high genetic diversity and different virulence levels, which complicate disease management and vaccine development. This study evaluated longitudinal changes in the immune cell composition of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid and the clinical outcomes across PRRSV strains with varying virulence, using techniques including single-cell transcriptomics. In highly virulent infection, faster viral replication results in an earlier peak lung-damage time point, marked by significant interstitial pneumonia, a significant decrease in macrophages, and an influx of lymphocytes.

Objective: We aimed to evaluate and compare the rise in the temperature for the safety of the ureter and kidney parenchyma when firing the holmium laser and the thulium fiber laser (TFL).

Methods: We performed a laboratory experiment to measure the rise in temperature upon firing holmium laser and a TFL in a 10 cm3 transparent test tube in an outdoor environment and then in a container with normal saline.

Results: In a 10 cc test tube with static water at 25°C, the rise in temperature with holmium and TFL depends on the firing time, keeping power constant.
