Voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) was identified as an effective strategy in HIV prevention. Although circumcision reduces heterosexual acquisition of HIV by 60%, there is low uptake of VMMC services in Eswatini. This study applies the health belief model (HBM) in understanding perceptions of young men in Eswatini towards VMMC for HIV prevention to upscale its adoption.

Advanced elastomers with outstanding strength, toughness, and reusability hold significant potential for diverse applications. Using photochemistry and mechanochemistry to develop such materials has become a very effective strategy. Here, we report that photoreversible coumarin-based mechanophores that can make force-/light-triggered cycloreversion are chemically incorporated into polyurethane elastomers to simultaneously enhance their strength and toughness.

Constructing circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) materials that exhibit dynamic handedness inversion and emissive color modulation for multimodal information encryption presents both a significant challenge and a compelling opportunity. Here, we have developed a pyridinethiazole acrylonitrile-cholesterol derivative (Z-PTC) that exhibits wavelength-dependent photoisomerization and photocyclization, enabling dynamic handedness inversion and emissive color modulation in supramolecular assemblies with decent CPL activity. Coordination with Ag ions form the Z-PTC Ag supramolecular polymer (SP), which assembles into nanotubes displaying enhanced positive yellow-green CPL.

The thickness of X-ray detectors needs to reach hundreds of micrometers to absorb X-ray, and therefore, high voltages over tens or hundreds of volts should be applied to extract X-ray-generated carriers. Here, we propose a bulk Schottky junction for X-ray detection using interpenetrated macroporous-carbon electrodes and metal-halide perovskite networks. The X-ray-generated holes are extracted by the macroporous-carbon electrodes under the built-in electric field, while the electrons in the perovskite phase result in a high gain effect.

Anthrax is a fatal zoonotic disease caused by exposure to spores. The CDC's guidelines divide anthrax treatment into three categories according to disease progression: post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), systemic, and systemic with a suspicion of CNS infection. While the prognosis for PEP or the early treatment of systemic anthrax is very good, ingress of the bacteria into the CNS poses a substantial clinical challenge.
