Surfactant protein (SP)-C is characterized by alpha-helix structure and palmitoyl groups attached to two cysteine residues. We examined the function of palmitoylation and dimerization in promotion of tidal volume in immature newborn rabbits. Reconstituted surfactants were made from a mixture of synthetic phospholipids and porcine SP-B (basic mixture) by adding various forms of SP-Cs: normal SP-C isolated from porcine lungs and monomeric or dimeric forms of SP-C. These latter two were isolated from patients with pulmonary alveolar proteinosis and were less palmitoylated. Animals were ventilated at an inspiratory pressure of 25 cmH2O. Median tidal volumes were <2 ml/kg in nontreated controls, 7.7 ml/kg in animals receiving the basic mixture without SP-C, and >18 ml/kg in animals treated with reconstituted surfactants containing 3% normal or 2% dimeric SP-C (P < 0.05 vs. basic mixture). The physiological effect of basic mixture was not improved by monomeric SP-C. We conclude that palmitoyl groups are important for the physiological effects of SP-C and that the dimeric form also improves physiological effects.

This work quantifies, through use of molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, the kinetic rates of physical surface processes occurring at a plasma-water interface. The probabilities of adsorption, absorption, desorption and scattering were computed for O, NO, NO, NO, OH, HO, HNO, HNO, and NO as they interact with the interface at three water temperatures: 298 K, 323 K, and 348 K. Species are categorised into the short-residence group (O, NO, NO, and NO) and the long-residence group (OH, HO, HNO, HNO, and NO) based on their mean surface residence time.

Background: The Centiloid framework was developed to harmonize amyloid-PET quantification across radiotracers and processing pipelines to facilitate data sharing and merging; it is now widely used across research and clinical trials. As we just completed the quantification of 10,361 amyloid-PET scans from the largest "real-world" study of amyloid-PET (IDEAS) and are about to release the data, we aimed to compare the distribution of IDEAS Centiloid values with other available datasets.
Method: In IDEAS, amyloid scans were acquired across 343 facilities and centrally processed at UCSF using a PET-only pipeline.

Background And Aim: Zinc oxide and copper oxide nanoparticles are known for their promising biological activities. This study aims to synthesize zinc oxide nanoparticles and copper-doped zinc oxide nanoparticles to harness the combined cytotoxic and anticancer effects of them in vitro and in vivo studies.
Methods: Zinc oxide nanoparticles, both doped and undoped, were synthesized using a chemical co-precipitation method.

Sulfur hexafluoride (SF), widely used in electric power systems, is one of the most potent greenhouse gases. Efficient separation of SF/N by adsorptive separation technology based on porous materials is of great significance in the industry yet remains a daunting challenge. Herein, a novel strategy is introduced to construct unique pore channels with multiple SF nano-traps by precisely selecting bipyrazole ligands to design the nonpolar surface of microporous metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), which significantly enhances the material's affinity for SF.
