The presence of separate genetic information in the mitochondria let consider them as semiautonomous structures. Changes of mitochondrial genetic material were detected in many pathologies; they have a number of common traits, but they also differ in terms of frequency of occurrence. This paper presents data concerning mtDNA and a review of most commonly encountered mutations and the associated pathologies.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Qiangji Decoction (QJD), a Chinese medicine, is widely used in Traditional Chinese Medicine to treat amnesia and Alzheimer's disease (AD), showing significant anti-AD effects. However, the precise mechanisms behind these effects are not well understood and require more research.

Aim Of The Study: This study aims to elucidate the mechanisms by which QJD ameliorates neuronal damage, synaptic dysfunction, and mitochondrial impairment in AD through the regulation of ROCK2/Drp1-mediated mitochondrial dynamics.

Host response aimed at eliminating the infecting pathogen, as well as the pathogen itself, can cause tissue injury. Tissue injury leads to the release of a myriad of cellular components including mitochondrial DNA, which the host senses through pattern recognition receptors. How the sensing of tissue injury by the host shapes the anti-pathogen response remains poorly understood.

Mitochondria are dynamic organelles essential for vital cellular functions, including ATP production, apoptosis regulation, and calcium homeostasis. Increasing research has highlighted the significance of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) content and alterations in the development and progression of various diseases, including cancer. The high mutation rate and vulnerability of mtDNA to damage make these alterations valuable biomarkers for cancer diagnosis, monitoring disease progression, detecting metastasis, and predicting treatment resistance across different tumor types.

Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors has opened up new avenues for cancer treatment, but serious cardiac injury has emerged in their use. A large number of data have shown that abnormal activation of cytosolic DNA-sensing cyclic GMP-AMP synthase-interferon gene activator pathway is closely related to cardiovascular inflammation and autoimmune diseases. However, the pathophysiological function of the cGAS-STING cascade in myocarditis induced by Immune checkpoint inhibitors is unclear.

Neglecting proper skin care and repeated exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation can have serious consequences, including skin burns, photoaging and even the development of skin cancer. UV radiation-induced damage is mediated by highly unstable and reactive molecules, named reactive oxygen species (ROS). To counteract ROS, the skin has an endogenous antioxidant system.
