Whole-field mulching and removal indicated the flavonoid plasticity in marselan grapes and wines: Insights from the metabolome and transcriptome.

Plant Physiol Biochem

Center for Viticulture and Enology, College of Food Science and Nutritional Engineering, China Agricultural University, Beijing, 100083, China; Key Laboratory of Viticulture and Enology, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Beijing, 100083, China.

As an eco-friendly vineyard floor management, mulching can effectively control weeds, preserve soil moisture, reduce irrigation requirements, and modify the grapevine microclimate. However, its impact on the grapevine microclimate, as well as the variation in grape and wine flavonoids across different growth stages under mulching conditions remains insufficiently studied. Therefore, in the vineyard of a semi-arid region, the whole-field mulching (M) of black geotextile mulch was applied to Vitis vinifera Marselan grapevines from anthesis and removed at three phenological stages.

Fungal infections, particularly those caused by , represent a significant global health concern, with drug resistance and biofilm formation posing considerable challenges to effective treatment. Baicalein, a flavonoid derived from baicalin found in , has demonstrated considerable antifungal efficacy. Moreover, the combination of baicalein and fluconazole demonstrated a notable synergistic effect.

Flavonoids as key players in cold tolerance: molecular insights and applications in horticultural crops.

Hortic Res

April 2025

College of Enology & Horticulture, Ningxia University, No.498 Helanshan West Street, Xixia District, Yinchuan, Ningxia 750021, China.

Cold stress profoundly affects the growth, development, and productivity of horticultural crops. Among the diverse strategies plants employ to mitigate the adverse effects of cold stress, flavonoids have emerged as pivotal components in enhancing plant resilience. This review was written to systematically highlight the critical role of flavonoids in plant cold tolerance, aiming to address the increasing need for sustainable horticultural practices under climate stress.

Natural products often show enhanced therapeutic effects after processing, largely due to changes in their chemical profiles. However, identifying the key chemical classes and components responsible for these improvements remains a challenge. In this study, we present a novel workflow for mass spectrometry data analysis, based on our previously developed MCnebula, combined with in vivo and in vitro testing to identify contributors to the anti-diabetic effects of processed natural products.

Besides the impact of harvest timing and grape quality, this study investigated the performance of selected yeast strains overproducing mannoproteins versus the conventional strain AGL 804 in terms of mannoprotein release and its consequences on the composition and color modulation of short-aged commercial red wines. The study fills a gap of volume and actual red wine production by comparing 36 winemaking conditions, each of 850 kg of grapes. The results showed that AGL 804 produced the same or more concentration of mannoproteins than the alternatives.
