Polyfunctional thiols are key contributors to wine aroma due to their extremely low odor thresholds, and their quantitative analysis remains challenging as a result of their ultratrace concentrations and high reactivity. This work presents the first method based on ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) coupled to quadrupole Orbitrap high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) in parallel reaction monitoring (PRM) mode for quantifying thiols at nanograms per liter (ng/L) levels in wine. Thiols in wine were derivatized using 4,4'-dithiodipyridine and isolated by liquid-liquid extraction.

Flow hydrogenation performed over heterogeneous catalysts makes organic synthesis more economical, safe and environmentally friendly. Over the past two decades, a significant amount of research with a major focus on noble metal catalysts has been carried out in this area. However, catalysts based on non-noble metals (Ni, Cu, Co, .

Carboxylic acids are a small but essential compound class within petroleum chemistry, influencing crude oil behaviors in production and processing and causing environmental impacts. Detailed structural information is fundamental to understanding their influence on petroleum characteristics. However, characterizing acids in crude oil remains challenging due to matrix effects, structural diversity, and low abundance.

Alkenes are fundamental functional groups which feature in various materials and bioactive molecules; however, efficient divergent strategies for their stereodefined synthesis are difficult. In this regard, numerous synthetic methodologies have been developed to construct carbon-carbon bonds with regio- and stereoselectivity, enabling the predictable and efficient synthesis of stereodefined alkenes. In fact, an appealing alternative approach for accessing challenging stereodefined alkene molecular frameworks could involve the sequential selective activation and cross-coupling of strong bonds instead of conventional C-C bond formation.

Biocatalysis has played a limited role in the early stages of drug discovery. This is often attributed to the limited substrate scope of enzymes not affording access to vast areas of novel chemical space. Here, we have shown a promiscuous nitroreductase enzyme (NR-55) can be used to produce a panel of functionalised anilines from a diverse panel of aryl nitro starting materials.
