Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spin-trapping experiments, employing the novel spin-trap DEPMPO, provide evidence for the formation of protein-peroxyl radicals from the reaction of bovine serum albumin (BSA) or lysozyme with HO. in the presence of O2. Spin-trapping leads to the detection of anisotropic spectra of partially immobilized protein-peroxyl spin-adducts; positive identification is based on a novel spectrum simulation approach (through which broadened anisotropic spectra are simulated and compared with experiment) and by comparison of results with those obtained when MeO2. is trapped and the adduct frozen in a solid matrix.

The design of a new visible-light methacrylated-based kraft lignin photosensitizer (MAcL) of iodonium salt (Iod) for the free-radical polymerization (FRP) of polyethylene glycol dimethacrylate (PEGDMA) under LEDs@405, 455, 470, 505, and 530 nm is reported. As demonstrated by laser flash photolysis (LFP) and electron paramagnetic resonance spin-trapping (EPR ST) experiments, the combination of MAcL with an electron acceptor (Iod) and trimethylolpropane tris(3-mercaptopropionate) (TT) used as a crosslinker, leads to the formation of highly efficient initiating radicals, i.e.

Acacetin (AC) is a natural polyphenol from the group of flavonoids. It is well established that the behavior of flavonoids depends on the presence of redox-active substances; therefore, we aim to investigate their biological activity following the interaction with Cu(II) ion. Our study demonstrates that AC can effectively bind Cu(II) ions, as confirmed by UV-Vis and EPR spectroscopy as well as DFT calculations.

Hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) and single electron transfer (SET) are two fundamental pathways for antiradical/antioxidant processes; however, a systematic operational evaluation of the same system is lacking. Herein, we present a comparative study of the HAT and SET processes applied to a library of well-characterized hybrid materials SiO@GA, SiO@GLA, SiO@GLAM, and the doubly hybrid material {GLA@SiO@GLAM}. Hydroxyl radicals (OH), produced by a Fenton system, react via the single electron transfer (SET) pathway and hydrogen atom transfer, through oxygen- and carbon-atoms, respectively, while the stable-radical DPPH via the HAT pathway through oxygen-atoms.

Epilepsy is a pathophysiological condition displaying a highly diverse phenotype. Consequently, comprehending the mechanisms underlying seizures necessitates moving beyond a simplistic model focused on the imbalance between the classical excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmitter systems. Nitric oxide (NO), a nonclassical and multifunctional gaseous neurotransmitter, has the potential to exert a profound influence on epileptic reactivity.

6-PPD (-[1,3-dimethylbutyl]-'-phenyl--phenylenediamine) is an industrial antioxidant reported to be an environmental contaminant. It was found to be highly toxic to coho salmon and potentially other aquatic organisms. The toxicity of 6-PPD in humans, however, remains unknown.
