Fifteen acetyl-peptide-amides with partial amino acid sequences of RANTES (regulated upon activation, normal T-cell expressed and secreted), all Cys residues of which were substituted by Ala, were synthesized, and screened for anti-HIV-1 activity. Peptides corresponding to 1-10, 37-46, and 57-68 showed marked activity against CC-chemokine receptor 5-using HIV-1(JR-CSF) (% inhibition at 100 nM 69, 82, 76%, respectively). The results indicate that multiple regions, including the N-terminal part responsible for chemotactic activity, are involved in anti-HIV-1 activity of RANTES, yielding possible lead compounds for anti-HIV-1 agents.

Polyketide synthases (PKSs) are crucial multidomain enzymes in diverse natural product biosynthesis. Parrots use a type I PKS to produce a unique pigment called psittacofulvin in their feathers. In domesticated budgerigars and lovebirds, the same amino acid substitution (R644W) within malonyl/acetyltransferase (MAT) domain of this enzyme has been shown to cause the blue phenotype with no psittacofulvin pigmentation, proposing a strong evolutionary constraint on the mechanism.

Efficient Hg(Ⅱ) removed by l-cysteine modified UiO-66 through chemical adsorption via a facile partial ligand replacement strategy.

J Colloid Interface Sci

College of Environmental Science and Engineering, Yangzhou University, Yangzhou 225000 PR China; Jiangsu Collaborative Innovation Center for Solid Organic Waste Resource Utilization, Nanjing 210095 PR China; Institutes of Agricultural Science and Technology Development, Yangzhou 225127 Jiangsu, PR China.

In this work, UiO-66-l-cys with enhanced adsorption capacity for Hg(Ⅱ) in water was synthesized through a facile two-step partial ligand replacement strategy. The presence of the functional groups significantly enhanced the capacity of the material for Hg(Ⅱ). According to the Langmuir model, the maximum theoretical adsorption capacity was calculated to be 1321.

The Antibody Mediated Prevention (AMP) trials showed that passively infused VRC01, a broadly neutralizing antibody (bNAb) targeting the CD4 binding site (CD4bs) on the HIV-1 envelope protein (Env), protected against neutralization-sensitive viruses. We identified six individuals from the VRC01 treatment arm with multi-lineage breakthrough HIV-1 infections from HVTN703, where one variant was sensitive to VRC01 (IC < 25 ug/mL) but another was resistant. By comparing Env sequences of resistant and sensitive clones from each participant, we identified sites predicted to affect VRC01 neutralization and assessed the effect of their reversion in the VRC01-resistant clone on neutralization sensitivity.

Transforming Feather Meal Into a High-Performance Feed for Broilers.

Vet Med Sci

January 2025

Department of Industrial Management, Faculty of Humanities, University of Tehran, Kish International Campus, Tehran, Iran.

Background: The poultry industry faces challenges with the high cost and environmental impact of Soybean meal. Feather meal, a byproduct with low digestibility due to its keratin content, is a potential alternative. Recent biotechnological advances, including enzymatic and bacterial hydrolysis, have enhanced its digestibility and nutritional value.

In this study, Response Surface Methodology (RSM) and Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) were developed to estimate the equilibrium solubility and partial pressure of CO in blended aqueous solutions of diisopropanolamine (DIPA) and 2-amino-2-methylpropanol (AMP). In this study, several key parameters were analyzed to understand the behavior of the aqueous DIPA/AMP system for CO capture. Including DIPA (9-21 wt%), AMP (9-21 wt%), temperature (323.
