In a recent experiment, a Feshbach scattering resonance was exploited to observe Ramsey fringes in a 85Rb Bose-Einstein condensate. The oscillation frequency corresponded to the binding energy of the molecular state. We show that the observations are remarkably consistent with predictions of a resonance field theory in which the fringes arise from oscillations between atoms and molecules.

We demonstrate a Ramsey-type microwave clock interrogating the 6.835 GHz ground-state transition in cold [Formula: see text]Rb atoms loaded from a grating magneto-optical trap (GMOT) enclosed in an additively manufactured loop-gap resonator microwave cavity. A short-term stability of [Formula: see text] is demonstrated, in reasonable agreement with predictions from the signal-to-noise ratio of the measured Ramsey fringes.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on reducing the inhomogeneous dephasing in cold rubidium (Rb) atoms trapped in a hollow-core fiber using a compensation laser beam.
  • By matching the spatial mode of this weak compensation beam with the trapping beam, the researchers successfully decrease the differential light shift (DLS) for a clock transition by a significant factor of ten.
  • Results from microwave Ramsey interferometry reveal a high contrast in Ramsey fringes, indicating improved coherence, with dephasing times reaching several tens of milliseconds, which enhances the potential for developing portable fiber-guided atom interferometers.

Quantum tunneling is the phenomenon that makes superconducting circuits "quantum". Recently, there has been a renewed interest in using quantum tunneling in phase space of a Kerr parametric oscillator as a resource for quantum information processing. Here, we report a direct observation of quantum interference induced by such tunneling and its dynamics in a planar superconducting circuit through Wigner tomography.

We demonstrate a robust single-photon Ramsey interferometer based on a single Rydberg excitation, where the photon is stored as a Rydberg polariton in an ensemble of atoms. This coherent conversion of the photon to Rydberg polariton enables to split an incoming photon into a superposition state of two Rydberg states by applying microwave fields, which constructs two paths of interferometer. Ramsey interference fringes are demonstrated when we scan either the detuning of the microwave or the free evolution time, from which we can obtain the resonant transition frequency of two Rydberg states.

Iterative Adaptive Spectroscopy of Short Signals.

Department of Physics and Applied Physics, University of Massachusetts Lowell, Lowell, Massachusetts 01854, USA.

We develop an iterative, adaptive frequency sensing protocol based on Ramsey interferometry of a two-level system. Our scheme allows one to estimate unknown frequencies with a high precision from short, finite signals consisting of only a small number of Ramsey fringes. It avoids several issues related to processing of decaying signals and reduces the experimental overhead related to sampling.
