HeLa cells were synchronized at late G1, early S, and late S phase of the cell cycle by nocodazole treatment. The cells were permeabilized with Triton X-100, digested with DNAse I, and extracted with 0.2 M ammonium sulfate to remove the digested chromatin. DNA was isolated from the residual chromatin attached to the nuclear matrix, digested with Hind III, and subjected to hybridization with [(32)P] labeled probe located upstream of the core region of the human beta-globin replication origin. The hybridization pattern revealed the existence of a DNase I sensitive site in the core region of the beta-globin replicator. The results suggest that association with the nuclear matrix induce alteration in the chromatin structure of the origin of replication that represents a more open chromatin configuration.

This article seeks to reveal the potential for applying key principles of Freirean pedagogy for the effective translation of knowledge and practices associated with the concept of health literacy followed worldwide, based on a critical and emancipatory perspective. It starts from the observation that the process of adopting the concept in Brazil has been more utilitarian than critical, with initiatives predominantly focused on the translation and use of instruments to assess health literacy among population groups. In doing so, this approach has overlooked the academic contributions, practical actors, and social movements in various regions of the country, regarding the application of principles and values of Paulo Freire's thought for the emancipatory promotion of health for individuals and population groups.

Objectives: to analyze the social representations of patients with cancer regarding oncologic surgery.
Methods: a qualitative study based on Social Representation Theory was conducted with 126 participants between October 2021 and May 2022 in a public hospital in Rio de Janeiro. A characterization questionnaire, free evocations of the inducing term "surgery", and semi-structured interviews with 60 participants were applied.

Several human disorders, including Alzheimer's disease (AD), are characterized by the aberrant formation of amyloid fibrils. In many cases, the amyloid core is flanked by disordered regions, known as fuzzy coat. The structural properties of fuzzy coats, and their interactions with their environments, however, have not been fully described to date.

A AuNSs@PB@Ag-Apt surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) probe has been developed by embedding Prussian blue (PB) between Au core and Ag shell. The PB SERS probe illustrates strong SERS activity in the Raman silent region of 2070 cm, and has a zero background signal, ensuring high sensitivity for the detection of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus).

Reliable computational methodologies and basis sets for modeling x-ray spectra are essential for extracting and interpreting electronic and structural information from experimental x-ray spectra. In particular, the trade-off between numerical accuracy and computational cost due to the size of the basis set is a major challenge, since molecular orbitals undergo extreme relaxation in the core-hole state. To gain clarity on the changes in electronic structure induced by the formation of a core-hole, the use of sufficiently flexible basis for expanding the orbitals, particularly for the core region, has been shown to be essential.
