Objective: To explore a new method for detecting cellular apoptosis.
Methods: Using routine electrophoresis assisted by computerized gel documentation analysis system(GDAS), apoptosis of the macrophages treated with dexamethasone was qualitatively and then quantitatively detected.
Results: Apoptosis occurred in the macrophages treated with dexamethasone, and DNA fragmentation of the apoptotic macrophages was visualized on 1% agarose gel electrophoresis. The apoptosis rates as determined by computerized GDAS were consistent with the results obtained from flow cytometry that showed typical apoptosis peak.
Conclusion: Agarose gel electrophoresis assisted by computerized GDAS was relatively simple and less costly in qualitative and quantitative detection of apoptosis with precision.

Pulmonary imaging with ultrasound in the conventional MHz range suffers from significant artifacts, as the high frequency acoustic waves primarily reflect off of the lung pleura with little to no penetration through the lung tissue. Furthermore, B-mode ultrasound images are difficult to interpret and require a skilled technician to obtain. Motivated by the finding that acoustic frequencies in the kHz penetrate lung tissue, a low-frequency tomographic ultrasound system is presented.

A capillary electrochromatography (CEC) synergistic enantioseparation system based on a novel nanomaterial synthesized by chiral molecularly imprinted polymers (CMIPs) and chiral metal organic frameworks (CMOFs) was developed. Compared with CMIPs and CMOFs alone, the enantioseparation performance of ofloxacin (OFL) of the CEC with the novel nanomaterial as stationary phases was greatly improved. CMOFs with chiral recognition ability have synergize with CMIPs to greatly improve the chiral selectivity of the novel stationary phases in CEC.

Hyaluronic acid, in the form of a gel or viscoelastic colloidal solution, is currently used for the viscosupplementation of joints affected by osteoarthritis, but its effectiveness is under debate in relation to newer alternatives. Based on meta-analytical arguments, the present article reinforces the opinion that there are still no decisive arguments for its complete replacement but for its use adapted to the peculiarities of the disease manifestation and of the patients. A "broad" comparison is first made with almost all alternatives studied in the last decade, and then a meta-regression study is performed to compare and predict the effect size induced by viscosupplementation therapy and its main challenger of clinical interest, the platelet-rich plasma treatment.

Background: A small amount of evidence suggests that nasal sprays, or physical activity and stress management, could shorten the duration of respiratory infections. This study aimed to assess the effect of nasal sprays or a behavioural intervention promoting physical activity and stress management on respiratory illnesses, compared with usual care.
Methods: This randomised, controlled, open-label, parallel-group trial was done at 332 general practitioner practices in the UK.

Fresh fruit and vegetables usually suffer from quality deterioration when exposed to inappropriate temperatures. Common energy-input temperature regulation is widely applied but there remain challenges of increasing energy consumption. Passive temperature management regulates the heat transfer without energy consumption, showing a sustainable strategy for food preservation.
