The large-scale industrial production characteristic of the last century led to an increase in man-made compounds and mobilization of natural compounds, many of which can accumulate in the environment and organisms due to their bioaccumulation and biomagnification properties. The endocrine system is especially vulnerable to these compounds that are known as endocrine disruptor chemicals (EDCs). Thyroid hormones (THs) are essential for normal development and growth, besides being the main regulators of basal metabolic rate.

Mechanism of photoluminescence properties of lyocell fibers changing with crystallinity.

Electronic address:

Although there have been sporadic reports that the crystallinity of cellulose has a significant impact on photoluminescence (PL) properties, the degree and pattern of this effect have not been thoroughly explored and elucidated. Here, we assume that crystallinity is positively correlated with PL emission. Then, lyocell fiber (CLY), a common man-made cellulose fiber, is selected to solve the above problems by exploring the PL emission properties of different crystallinity systems.

Microsaccades, a form of fixational eye movements, help maintain visual stability during stationary observations. This study examines the modulation of microsaccadic rates by various stimulus categories in monkeys and humans during a passive viewing task. Stimulus sets were grouped into four primary categories: human, animal, natural, and man-made.

Amphibians are among the most threatened vertebrate taxa globally. Their global decline necessitates effective conservation actions to bolster populations across both the larval and adult stages. Constructing man-made ponds is one action proven to enhance reproduction in pond-breeding amphibians.

Plastic waste that ends up in the deep sea is becoming an increasing concern. However, it remains unclear whether there is any microflora capable of degrading plastic within this vast ecosystem. In this study, we investigated the bacterial communities associated with different types of plastic-polyamide-nylon 4, 6 (PA), polyethylene (PE), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), and polystyrene (PS)-after one year of in situ incubation in the pelagic deep sea of the Western Pacific.
