Purpose: We investigated the role of epidermal growth factor (EGF) microemulsion (ME) formulation on stress ulcer healing and the levels of gastric mucosal malondialdehyde (MDA) and glutathione (GSH).

Methods: Forty-eight female Wistar rats were divided into five groups according to the treatments given. Ten rats were given intragastric (i.g.) serum physiologic (SP) for 7 days; ten rats were given i.g. ME for 7 days; ten rats were given i.g. EGF in SP 6 microg/kg per day for 7 days; ten rats were given i.g. ME + EGF (Sigma E-7755) 6 microg/kg per day for 7 days; and eight rats were exposed to cold and immobilization stress or no stress (NS), and not given any treatment, as controls. The mean ulcerated area, and the MDA and GSH levels of the gastric mucosa were measured.

Results: The mean ulcerated area of the ME+EGF treatment group was significantly less than that of the ME- and EGF-treated groups and the control groups. The gastric MDA levels were also found to be significantly lower in the ME+EGF treated group than in the ME-treated group or the control groups. However, there were no significant changes in the gastric GSH levels among all the groups. The gastric MDA levels were positively correlated with the ulcerated area.

Conclusion: The ME formulation of EGF at the dose given in this study was more effective than EGF alone on the healing of stress ulceration of the gastric mucosa.

Background/objectives: Diet composition is important for health, especially during critical periods such as pre-gestation (P), gestation (G), or lactation (S), due to its potential impact not only on the mother but on the offspring. The Mediterranean diet includes many healthy foods rich in fiber and/or polyphenols, such as whole grains, fruits, vegetables, beans, and nuts. The present preclinical study assesses the impact of a diet rich in fiber and polyphenols (HFP diet) during one of those three periods (P, G, or S, three weeks each) on the rat gene expression of the small intestine obtained at the end of the lactation period.

is a bacteria responsible for a widespread zoonosis that affects both humans and animals. Leptospirosis is a challenging pathology to diagnose and treat since its signs are unspecific and symptoms vary greatly. The disease seems to be highly prevalent in environments where reservoir animals such as rats and small mammals are common.

The Effect of Local Melatonin Application on Bone Fracture Healing in Rat Tibias.

Medicina (Kaunas)

Department of Peridontology, Faculty of Dentistry, Firat University, Elazig 23119, Türkiye.

This study aimed to histologically evaluate the effects of local melatonin application at different doses on bone fracture healing. Thirty rats were divided into three groups, with ten rats in each group. In the control group ( = 10), a fracture line was created in the tibial bones, and fracture osteosynthesis was performed without any additional procedure.

Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) is present in a healthy brain at low densities but can be markedly upregulated by excitatory input and by inflammogens. This study evaluated the sensitivity of the PET radioligand [C]-6-methoxy-2-(4-(methylsulfonyl)phenyl)--(thiophen-2-ylmethyl)pyrimidin-4-amine ([C]MC1) to detect COX-2 density in a healthy human brain. The specificity of [C]MC1 was confirmed using lipopolysaccharide-injected rats and transgenic mice expressing the human gene, with 120-min baseline and blocked scans using COX-1 and COX-2 selective agents.

Department of Plastic Surgery, Xijing Hospital, Fourth Military Medical University, Xi'an, Shaanxi Province 710032, China. Electronic address:

Background: Mechanical stretch is utilized in the process of tissue expansion to promote skin regeneration, which is crucial for wound healing and organ reconstruction purposes. Enlarged dermal area is one of the significant histological characteristics of the expanded skin. However, the underlying biological processes and molecular pathways associated with dermal regeneration triggered by mechanical stretch are still not well understood.
