Unlabelled: Infections are a significant cause of morbidity and mortality among low birth weight (LBW) infants.
The Aims Of Our Study Were: (1) to investigate whether serum antibody concentrations in 62 LBW infants (1,500-2,500 g) were normalized by 1 year of life, and (2) to determine the clinical relevance of humoral immaturity in these children during the 1st year compared to 20 appropriate-for-gestational-age (AGA) term infants. At 1 year of life, immunoglobulin serum concentrations in LBW infants were comparable to those of the control group. The incidence of respiratory tract infections during the 1st year of life was not significantly different between LBW and AGA term infants. Interestingly, we demonstrated that LBW infants with a higher frequency of reported febrile upper respiratory tract infections had more elevated serum total IgG, IgG(1), IgG(3), total IgA, and IgA(1) concentrations. Thus, infants with a birth weight of 1,500-2,500 g do not appear to have an increased risk of respiratory tract infections compared to AGA term children during the 1st year of life. Furthermore, our data suggest that especially febrile infections induce higher serum immunoglobulin concentrations in LBW infants.

Background: Allergic rhinitis (AR) represents a persistent inflammatory condition affecting the upper respiratory tract, characterized by abnormal initiation of the immunoglobulin E (IgE)-mediated cascade. Follicular helper T (Tfh) cells and regulatory T (Tfr) cells are pivotal in orchestrating the development of IgE production in AR patients. IL-35, an anti-inflammatory cytokine, secreted by various cellular subpopulations.

Children with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) often exhibit severe respiratory problems and significant pulmonary dysfunction during school age and adulthood. Exercise tests show a decline in cardiopulmonary function and physical performance in children with BPD, who also have a higher incidence of pulmonary hypertension. These children generally perform poorly in terms of intelligence, language, and motor development.

Sweet syndrome, also known as acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis, is a rare condition characterised by fever, leucocytosis, and painful skin lesions. This retrospective study analysed 21 patients with Sweet syndrome treated at the Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University from January 2015 to June 2022. The study aimed to investigate the aetiology, clinicopathological features, and treatment outcomes.

Background: Undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma, previously called malignant fibrous histiocytoma, is a type of malignant mesenchymal tumor (sarcoma) of soft tissue and sometimes bone. It is uncommon in the oral cavity and very sporadic in the maxillary sinus. Microscopic diagnosis of this malignancy in the maxillary sinus can be very challenging, because there is a range of features that may overlap with other benign and malignant tumors.

Background: Chronic respiratory diseases (CRD) represents a series of lung disorders and is posing a global health burden. Systemic inflammation and phenotypic ageing have been respectively reported to associate with certain CRD. However, little is known about the co-exposures and mutual associations of inflammation and ageing with CRD.
