To establish the clinical significance of the antibody against oxidized low-density lipoprotein (anti-Ox-LDL) titer in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI), we measured the anti-Ox-LDL titer in 39 patients with AMI and 25 controls. In all AMI patients, the anti-Ox-LDL titer on admission was higher (p < 0.05) than the value in the controls. One month after admission, the titer decreased significantly (p < 0.001) reaching control levels. In patients who underwent thrombolytic therapy, the anti-Ox-LDL titer on admission was identical in patients with occluded infarct-related arteries (IRA) and patients with patent IRA during emergency coronary angiography. In patients who did not undergo thrombolytic therapy, the anti-Ox-LDL titer on admission was higher in patients with occluded IRA than in patients with patent IRA. An increased anti-Ox-LDL titer may be a risk factor for the onset of AMI. Spontaneous recanalization of the IRA may be associated with increased anti-Ox-LDL titers, while thrombolysis-induced recanalization may be independent of it.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the relation among atherosclerosis, antibodies against oxidized LDL (anti-oxLDL), and inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients treated with biological (b) disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs).
Methods: Fifty-nine patients who were receiving conventional synthetic DMARDs and were eligible for treatment with a biological agent were included in the study. Total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and IgG antibodies against oxidized LDL (anti-oxLDL) as well as carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT) were determined before and after 6 months of treatment.

Many animal and human studies have found an inverse association between anti-oxidized low-density lipoprotein (oxLDL) antibodies (anti-oxLDL) and atherosclerotic burden. Furthermore, anti-oxLDL antibodies have been shown to cause regression of atherosclerotic plaque in mice. Animal studies indicate that the 23-valent pneumococcal vaccine may induce the production of these potentially protective anti-oxLDL antibodies, and human epidemiological studies support their potentially beneficial effect in reducing cardiovascular events.

Aim: Has elimination diet applied in children with food hypersensitivity in infancy any effect on plasma levels of anti-oxidative vitamins and antibodies to oxidized low-density lipoprotein (anti-ox-LDL antibody) titer in these children at their pre-school age?"
Material: The study involved 92 children (3 to 7 years of age) with food hypersensitivity treated in their infancy and early childhood with soy formula or casein hydrolysate, as a milk substitute for at least 12 months. Control group comprised 62 children, who had never been treated with an elimination diet.
Methods: The status of the anti-oxidative system was evaluated by determination of retinol, alpha-tocopherol, and coenzyme Q10 plasma levels by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).

Serum paraoxonase (PON1) and antibodies to oxidized-LDL (anti ox-LDL) were measured in chronic renal failure subjects on renal replacement therapy such as hemodialysis (HD) peritoneal dialysis (PD) and transplantation (Txp). Paraoxonase activity was significantly lower in HD and PD group (P<0.001) than in control subjects.
