With the rapid progress of the diagnostic techniques, especially endoscopy, the discovery rate of early superficial cancer of the esophagus has increased markedly. Relatively recently introduced, endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) is now widely used in the treatment of early stage cancer of the esophagus. We used EMR in the case of a patient who was incidentally diagnosed with a type IIa early esophageal cancer using a band-ligating device. We had no serious complications. At the histopathological examination we noticed that the carcinoma involved the upper third of the submucosal layer. For this reason the patient was given additional therapy (radiotherapy), too. A month after the EMR, at the histological examination we found no local signs of recurrent disease.

Background: Mucosal healing (MH) is the major therapeutic target for Crohn's disease (CD). As the most commonly involved intestinal segment, small bowel (SB) assessment is crucial for CD patients. Yet, it poses a significant challenge due to its limited accessibility through conventional endoscopic methods.

Sevelamer is a non-absorbable polymer used to treat hyperphosphatemia in individuals with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) undergoing hemodialysis. The deposition of sevelamer crystals in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, especially in the colon, can cause mucosal inflammation, pseudopolyps, ulceration, ischemia, or necrosis. Owing to its rarity and lack of physician awareness, the actual incidence and prevalence of sevelamer-induced gastrointestinal mucosal injury (SIGMI) remain unknown.

We have developed a 37-color spectral flow cytometry panel to assess the phenotypical differentiation of innate and adaptive immune lymphoid subsets within human intestinal tissue. In addition to lineage markers for identifying innate lymphoid cells (ILC), TCRγδ, MAIT (mucosal-associated invariant T), natural killer (NK), CD4 and CD8 T cells, we incorporated markers of differentiation and activation (CD45RA, CD45RO, CD25, CD27, CD38, CD39, CD69, CD103, CD127, CD161, HLA-DR, CTLA-4 [CD152]), alongside transcription factors (Bcl-6, FoxP3, GATA-3, Helios, T-bet, PU.1 and RORγt) and chemokine receptors (CCR4, CCR6, CCR7, CXCR3, and CXCR5).
