The toxicant action on hepatocytes of "paraquat" introduced at very low concentrations in an in vitro culture of such cells is here established. Mitoses are slowed down and moreover, the lysosomial system is impaired, thus inducing a decrease in its enzymic reactions and the proliferation of very large vesicles.

Chemical crop protection is one of the most cost-effective methods for agriculture, as crop failures can be prevented, and sustainable growth can be enabled regardless of the seasons. Agricultural production must be significantly increased in the future to meet the food needs of a growing world population. However, the continued loss of established active ingredients due to consumer perceptions, changing needs of farmers and ever-changing regulatory requirements is higher than annually new active ingredients introduced to the market.

We honor Professor Hartmut Karl Lichtenthaler, a versatile pioneer of photosynthesis research, plant physiology, isoprenoid biochemistry, and stress physiology of plants, for his groundbreaking and creative contributions to plant science. His innovative research on the chemical composition, ultrastructure, and function of chloroplasts and his detection of the major methylerythritol 4-phosphate (MEP) isoprenoid biosynthetic pathway in plants is key to our current understanding of the physiology and biochemistry of photosynthesis systems. His ingenious use of the powerful laser-induced chlorophyll fluorescence imaging has helped us better understand the stress response processes in plant leaves.

Chemical weed control is a significant agricultural concern, and reliance on a limited range of herbicide action modes has increased resistant weed species, many of which use C4 metabolism. As a result, the identification of novel herbicidal agents with low toxicity targeting C4 plants becomes imperative. An assessment was conducted on the impact of 3-cyanobenzoic acid on the growth and photosynthetic processes of maize (), a representative C4 plant, cultivated hydroponically over 14 days.

One of the guiding principles of the sustainable use of herbicides is their targeted action exclusively against weeds, consisting of blocking photosynthesis and synthesis of amino acids and growth regulators. Herbicides are major elements of plant production, indispensable to the functioning of modern agriculture. Nevertheless, their influence on all elements of the natural environment needs to be continuously controlled.

Estuaries are complex ecosystems, being difficult to determine the way management actions affect them. This study quantitatively evaluated the spread of invasive submerged and floating aquatic macrophyte vegetation in Franks Tract of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta in response to two types of management actions, drought salinity barriers in years 2015, 2021 and 2022, and herbicide treatments in years 2004-2022. A Random Forest algorithm applied to airborne hyperspectral and satellite multispectral images generated maps of macrophyte cover in 2004-2022.
