Type-I intermittencies are common phenomena that are often observed in the neighborhood of periodic windows when a control parameter is varied. These intermittencies usually have a single reinjection channel, that is, a single type of laminar phase was observed. Recently, type-I intermittencies with two reinjection channels were reported in several systems. In this paper, it will be shown that type-I intermittencies with n channels of reinjection are associated with the coexistence of n stable periodic orbits that are mapped into each other under a symmetry. A procedure to build type-I intermittency with n reinjection channels using the n-fold cover of an image system is presented. Cases up to n=3 are explicitly given with the covers of the centered Rössler system.

Article Synopsis
  • Allergic fungal rhinosinusitis (AFRS) is a type of chronic rhinosinusitis linked to a hypersensitivity to fungi, particularly affecting immunocompromised individuals.
  • A 32-year-old patient with a history of Wilson's disease and a liver transplant faced severe nasal obstruction and other symptoms, leading to a diagnosis of AFRS after surgery and biopsy, but risks from carotid artery dehiscence complicated further surgical interventions.
  • The patient achieved complete symptom resolution after starting dupilumab, a biologic therapy, highlighting its potential as a safe and effective treatment option for high-risk patients with AFRS.

Purpose: To investigate whether intermittent treatment after an induction phase of first-line schedule of fluorouracil, leucovorin, and irinotecan (FOLFIRI) plus panitumumab (PAN) prevents or delays the onset of resistance and improves safety and compliance with treatment in patients with unresectable / wild-type (wt) metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC).

Patients And Methods: IMPROVE (ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT04425239) was an open-label, multicenter, randomized phase II noncomparative trial.

Genome wide association and animal studies have implicated genetic variations in CHRNΑ5, encoding the α5 subunit-containing nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (α5*nAChRs), as a risk factor for developing alcohol use disorders (AUDs). To understand how α5*nAChR mutations may influence alcohol (EtOH) drinking behavior, we used a two-bottle choice procedure with intermittent access to alcohol in male and female transgenic mice expressing either the highly frequent human single nucleotide polymorphism (α5SNP/rs16969968) or a deletion of the Chrna5 gene (α5KO). AUDs-related preconsommatory traits (anxiety, sensation-seeking and impulsivity) were assessed with a battery of relevant tasks (elevated-plus maze, novel place preference and step-down inhibitory avoidance).

Salivary glands are highly responsible for maintaining oral tissue homeostasis by secreting saliva. This study was designed to investigate aquaporin 1 and 4, oxidative stress, and autophagy in submandibular and parotid salivary glands of diabetic rats and the possible ameliorative effect of intermittent fasting on these changes. Fifty adult male rats were divided into control and experimental groups.

The intestinal mucosal barrier forms a critical interface between lumen contents such as bacteria, drugs, and drug carriers and the underlying tissue. Current intestinal models, while recapitulating certain aspects of this barrier, generally present challenges with respect to imaging transport across mucus and uptake into enterocytes. A human mesofluidic small intestinal chip was designed to enable facile visualization of a mucosal interface created by growing primary human intestinal cells on a vertical hydrogel wall separating channels representing the intestinal lumen and circulatory flow.
