Published: September 2002

Introduction: In Denmark, the National Register of Patients has, by law since 1977, received discharge diagnoses, surgical codes, and, in recent years, also codes for specific medical treatments for all hospitalised patients. It is an important source of administrative data and for epidemiological research. This paper summarises the results of an evaluation of the register as a tool for assessing quality in gynaecological departments in Denmark.

Material And Methods: We obtained data describing production and quality of abortions, ectopic pregnancies, hysterectomies, endometrial ablations, ovarian cysts, ovarian, cervical, and endometrial cancer, in vitro fertilisation, insemination, and urine incontinence. A search was also made for possible miscodings in order to evaluate the extent of such miscoding and to obtain more valid quality estimates.

Results: The validity and completeness of the diagnosis codes were generally poorer than that of the surgical codes, especially that of the newer medical treatment codes. We found a rather different clinical practice and quality at the 38 gynaecological departments studied. In order to reduce this stochastic noise, we analysed all small departments as a single unit. Generally, the quality was the same in both the larger and the smaller units.

Conclusion: The register seems well suited for routine production and quality control.

March 2025

Dirección de Desarrollo Tecnológico Agrario, Instituto Nacional de Innovación Agraria (INIA), Sede Central: Av. La Molina 1981, La Molina, Lima 15024, Perú.

Cattle breeding in the highlands of Peru is an important economic activity at the level of the entire rural extension, because it serves as an economic reserve for rural families and forms an integral part of the agricultural producer's culture. This review aimed to provide a literature- and research-based approach to the fundamental aspects of a national genetic improvement plan, emphasising the efficacy of using a bovine germplasm of high genetic quality as an initiative to implement genetic improvement programmes. The concepts to be implemented in national livestock farming include high yield, feed conversion efficiency, and minimum greenhouse gas emissions.

Introduction: When implemented by national and regional regulatory agencies good review practices (GRevPs) support the timely high-quality review of medicines for enhanced patients' availability to safe, quality and efficacious innovative and generic products. It is important that all aspects of GRevPs are continuously evaluated and updated to promote the continuous improvement of regulatory systems at national and regional levels. The aim of this study was to assess and compare the GRevPs of the national medicines regulatory agencies (NMRAs) of Burkina Faso, Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo, who are active participants of the ECOWASMRH initiative to identify opportunities for improvement.

Background And Purpose: Pediatric radiotherapy patients and their parents are usually aware of their need for radiotherapy early on, but they meet with a radiation oncologist later in their treatment. Consequently, they search for information online, often encountering unreliable sources. Large language models (LLMs) have the potential to serve as an educational pretreatment tool, providing reliable answers to their questions.
