Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) can develop in deep-pit swine manure storage when bacteria are selectively pressured by unmetabolized antibiotics. Subsequent manure application on row crops is then a source of AMR into soil and downstream runoff water. Therefore, understanding the patterns of diverse antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in manure among different farms is important for both interpreting the results of the detection of these genes from previous studies and for the use of these genes as bioindicators of manure borne antibiotic resistance in the environment.

High performance ozone nanobubbles based advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) for degradation of organic pollutants under high pollutant loading.

J Environ Manage

Electronic address:

Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) have proven to be an effective solution for chemical wastewater treatment, particularly for degradation of organic pollutants, especially dyes. Ozonation is recognized as one of the most prevalent AOPs. Nevertheless, some cases show a lowered efficiency of O utilization which is attributed to its inadequate distribution in the treated water causing low residence time, low mass transfer coefficient as well as shorter half-life.

The temperature dependence of Mössbauer quadrupole splitting values: a quantum chemical analysis.

Chem Commun (Camb)

January 2025

Department of Chemistry, Quantum Chemistry, TU Darmstadt, Peter-Grünberg-Str. 4, 64287 Darmstadt, Germany.

The two key parameters extracted from Mössbauer spectroscopy, isomer shift and quadrupole splitting, have well-known temperature dependencies. While the behavior of the values following a temperature change has long been known, its microscopic origins are less clear. For quantum chemical calculations - formally representing the situation at 0 K - significant discrepancies with the experiment can arise, especially at elevated temperatures.

Phylogeographic analyses reveal recent dispersal and multiple Wolbachia infections of the bright-eyed ringlet Erebia oeme within the European mountain systems.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Senckenberg Deutsches Entomologisches Institut, Systematik und Biogeographie, Eberswalder Str. 90, 15374, Müncheberg, Germany.

The genus Erebia comprises numerous species in Europe. Due to preference of cold environments, most species have disjunct distributions in the European mountain systems. However, their biogeographical patterns may differ significantly.
