Solid-phase microextraction (SPME) fiber coatings based on conductive polypyrrole films were prepared for the electrochemical extraction and desorption of ionic analytes. Simple preparation of each of the PPY extraction coatings on a platinum wire was possible with a constant potential method, but more importantly, cycling of the film between oxidation and reduction potentials facilitated the extraction and desorption of ionic analytes. The analytes were desorbed into a sample aliquot of water and were determined by flow injection analysis using a mass spectrometer. The fiber coatings and the developed electrochemical SPME method were found to be stable and reproducible (RSD < 5%; N = 5) and could be extended to several cations and anions, confirming the versatility of the approach. Preconcentration of the analyte on the fiber was also possible by repeating the processes to increase the amount of analyte extracted.

Cassava is a starchy staple typically consumed in tropical countries; however, its high moisture content renders it susceptible to post-harvest deterioration. Fermentation has been used to improve shelf-life, functional properties, nutrient bioavailability, minimize toxic compounds, and alter aroma. In this study, the effect of added salt (5-25 %) on the pH, titratable acidity (TTA), and volatile compounds (VOCs) in cassava fermented was investigated.

The most important aspect of sorbent-based approaches is the use of a sustainable, readily available, and cost-effective sorbent material for sample analysis. Biochar is an emerging and prominent sorbent material for various applications in sorbent-based techniques due to its availability, affordability, eco-friendly nature, porosity, pore structure, abundance of aliphatic and aromatic carbon structures, and abundant oxygen-containing functional groups. On the basis of the numerous benefits of biochar, this review discusses why biochar is the preferred sorbent in sorptive-based techniques.

The volatile profile of bee pollen samples from Central and Eastern Europe was investigated by headspace solid phase microextraction (HS-SPME) combined with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry-olfactometry (GC-MS-O). Sampling conditions were optimized for the extraction of volatiles. Pollen odorants were extracted with six different fiber coatings, five various extraction times, three diverse extraction temperatures and three differing desorption times.

, a special economic aquaculture species in China, is valued highly for its medicinal and nutritional benefits. However, the muscle of farmed exhibits a strong off-flavor, resulting in poor flavor quality. To enhance the flavor quality of the meat, this study examined the volatile compounds in muscle by establishing identification methods for these volatile odor compounds and comparing the differences between the two aquaculture modes.

This study aim is to elucidate the relationship between the microbial community dynamics and the production of volatile flavor compounds during the fermentation process of bacterial-type i. Using high-throughput sequencing (HTS) and headspace solid-phase microextraction, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-SPME-GC-MS) was used to investigate microbial diversity and volatile compound profiles at different fermentation stages. Spearman correlation analysis was employed to identify potential associations between microbial genera and flavor compounds.
