Patients harmed by medical mishaps are often driven to litigation because of a lack of apologies and candour rather than a desire for monetary compensation. Despite attempts at clinical negligence reform, patients continue to receive unsatisfactory responses. Physicians have cited fears of legal liability as a key reason for withholding apologies.

In this study, the first attempt is made to implement conjugated polymer-based self-assembled monolayer (SAM), poly[3-(6-carboxyhexyl) thiophene-2,5-diyl] (P3HT-COOH), is implemented as the hole transport layer (HTL) in fabricatiing organic photovoltaics (OPVs). The scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) results show that those P3HT-COOH molecules with periodic carboxylic acid anchoring groups pack periodically on the indium tin oxide (ITO) surface and form a monolayer. Further, this monolayer is smooth and dense with a polar feature that minimizes defects, forms an excellent interface with the photoactive layer, and tunes the work function of ITO beneficial for hole extraction.

Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) is an increasingly common skin condition characterized by itchy rashes in response to allergens. The most common diagnostic test involves patch testing (PT), but despite the efficacy of PT for identifying and guiding patients toward avoidance of allergens, PT alone does not elucidate the underlying biomechanistic changes which may be useful for sub-categorizing ACD further. In addition, some patients may never be able to identify their causative allergens unless they go to highly specialized ACD centers.

Studies of extinction typically focus on unintended losses of biodiversity and culture. This study, however, examines an attempt to induce extinction of a parasite: human hookworm ( and ). Our interdisciplinary approach integrates medical history and epidemiology using records created by the Jamaica Hookworm Commission of 1919-1936.

Maxillary reconstruction poses unique challenges for the reconstructive surgeon because of the complex three-dimensional (3D) anatomy of the maxilla. Undertaking this endeavor on secondary reconstruction makes it more difficult due to problems in recreating the true defect. This study is an attempt to demonstrate the role of virtual surgical planning (VSP), 3D printing, and mock surgery in reconstructing such defects using free fibula flaps.
