Background: Kerala, a southern state in India, is known to be atypical due to its high literacy rate and advanced social development indicators. Facing competition from a dominant private healthcare system, recent government health system reforms have focused on providing free, high-quality universal healthcare in the public sector. We carried out an analysis to ascertain the initial impacts of these measures among 'hard to reach groups' as part of a larger health policy and systems research study, with a focus on public sector health service utilisation.

This cross-sectional study examined 12 outpatient meetings within the Kerala model of palliative care, a community-based service provided to patients irrespective of disease, stage, or prognosis starting from the time of diagnosis. The study focused on the pivotal role of community nurses in facilitating these meetings, with participants including cancer patients and survivors.

Kerala, the Indian state with the highest reported level of social development, faces a challenge with persistent early marriage, particularly among Muslims in Malappuram. This study explores the sociocultural factors influencing this situation, in which child marriage rates among Muslims are significantly higher than those of Hindus and Christians. Employing a qualitative research strategy within a specific Malappuram , a Muslim-majority village cluster encompassing three villages, we identify a multifaceted interplay of micro and macro forces perpetuating early marriage.

The current study is an attempt to unravel the public communication efforts of the Kerala government in its successful Covid-19 crisis management efforts during the first wave of the pandemic. The findings of the study indicate that the government has successfully used pre-crisis communication to inoculate the stakeholders, 'steal thunder', and bolster their crisis management capabilities.
